Quote from: Sheilbh on December 14, 2024, 03:50:23 PMIsn't part of it just that America invents talking about generations in that way? I could be wrong but I think for purposes of marketing and it's linked to the post-war rise of young consumers (very much also observable in the UK and the rest of Europe)/"teenagers" and distinctive cultural expressions - jazz, beat, skiffle. If you want to market to people it's helpful to explain to them who they are and why they're different.

I think there's a lot of overlap between UK and US - not sure there's much point in meaningfully distinguishing between the two (or much of Western Europe). Not least because the cultural influence of the US is so high.

Yes, the whole "generations" thing was invented by Gallup to give their data some context.  There's nothing to say that alternative artificial definitions are in any way inferior (or superior).

So...  The last time I posted was in 2021.  The last time before that was 2013.  It appears my disappearances trending shorter.

How is everyone?  What's everyone been up to?  For my part since the last time I was here, I got married, got a dog, had a baby (he's 17 months old), and wandered around China and the Far East generally for a bit.  Otherwise, everything else is about the same.

Heyo, N14, good to see you. :)

Is it in the job description for a doctor's receptionist that you have to be a POS?
Bad encounter with one today and thinking back so many I've met have been downright rude and awful. Really disproportionate with other groups. :hmm:

I always bite my tongue and remain respectful even if I push back. With people who have the power to really mess up your day/life, it just doesn't worth the futile effort to call out their asshatery.

Weird, mine are super nice. More than the doctors themselves quite often.

Probably tied to how shitty the average patient is. I've had both good and bad at different docs. Older ones seem to have a shorter fuse :D
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".

Regarding doctors, in my personal experience traumatologists seem to have a disproportionate representation of jerks compared to other specialties.

Those critics are either complete fans or hate everthing filmed in the genre.

Yeah. Nurses are fantastic.

Doctors vary. I have a consultant for a chronic condition who is fantastic (as is his team). I can't remember when I last went to the GP so I've no idea but my memory is they were fine. But then I was in hospital for a bit following an accident which ultimately didn't require surgery and they mainly regarded me like a butcher would a side of beef.

GP and hospital receptionists are the human embodiment of "computer says no" in my experience   I'm sure they're wonderful people away from work but not normally a great experience.

Mrs B is a receptionist at a doctor's office... :contract:

So I hear her work stories, but obviously have never dealt with her in a professional capacity so I can't say if she's rude to patients or not.

The big frustrating thing in her job is trying to book patients.  She winds up either booking patients many months in advance, or (because one of "her" doctors is a surgeon") she's trying to fill operating room slots at the last minute if time becomes available.  Understandably people don't like the option of waiting 6 months or more, or of dropping everything to go in on a day's notice.

They may well come to take me away.  Again.   :tinfoil:

But yeah, I intend to hang around a bit longer this go around.  It's just a question of finding time, a thing I find to be in increasingly short supply.
