Isn't that why five eyes exist? Only the core can be trusted with the real secrets and so on.

I'm shocked Hungary got hacked and the government denied it.

Less surprising to me would be they're wide open with Russia by choice and claim they were hacked.

Sweden even sold some extra Gripens to Hungary recently. :) It was probably considered reasonable as it was part of the pricetag for NATO membership, and information on the Gripen C system is already known to Russia since Hungary has had it for years.

I was thinking it would not surprise me one bit if the Foreign Minister was asked for some admin credentials and he gave it to them.

No particular reason to post this now, I just came across it and wasn't sure if I shared it 4 years ago when it was happening.

This was in 2019 when a few opposition MPs, following a demonstration outside the state TV HQ tried to get air time to read what the protesters wanted to be read (this is how they diffused the situation one night and prevented the crowd from trying to assault the building). They spent days in there with no success after which they were literally thrown out.

The footage was made by the state TV security (it was leaked I believe). The guy being manhandled, it is worth remembering was an elected representative of the people. Also, I believe, a former wrestler, which explains the edge he has on the thugs:

EDIT: I guess the moral of the video is the absolutely nothing that the consequence of this and even worse scenes were. The country at large remained indifferent.

Can't find it now but I recall some articles that Canada was being left out of certain "five eyes" intelligence due to concerns about our own vulnerabilities...
Posts here are my own private opinions.  I do not speak for my employer.

I'd read similar I think with New Zealand as they were taking a fairly different stance towards China than most crucially the US or Australia.
Let's bomb Russia!

In the spirit of the photo shared in the EU thread, here is a Budapest scene:

"Haboru" means "war", so it says, "Stop war", and then "only Fidesz" Within the letters of "War" there are photos of Soros, and a couple of prominent opposition figures.

This is what Fidesz' local and EU election campaign is limited to: vote for us, if not Hungary will go to war (with Russia, I suppose).

Oh and one from a few years ago: "Hungary is a strong and proud European country"

For at least a decade now it's been repeatedly pointed out that the fear-mongering politics followed by Orban inevitably can only lead to ever-increasing escalation, since the narrative and the party's reason to being would cease to exist if "dangers" facing the country actually receded.

The current local & EU election campaign is a nice illustration.

There is NO message or manifesto other than: WAR. The narrative is -without any exaggeration by me- that the aggressive stance of the EU (vis-a-vis Ukraine) is resulting in an imminent world war. The last chance to stop it is to send enough Fidesz MEPs so they and their European allies can "conquer Brussels" and stop the war.

It has reached such a stage that the former leading moderate conservative newspaper (for several years now part of the Orbanist trash heap of propaganda) published a long article analysing what would happen to Budapest in a nuclear strike.

That's silly.

Putin would never nuke  a trusty ally :P
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

Lest we forget France's nuclear strategy throughout the Cold War (and possibly now) which primarily involved nuking *checks notes* Germany
