Quote from: DGuller on November 21, 2023, 11:51:16 AMI didn't mean to say that Oswald was a rookie at shooting, but he was a rookie at assassinations.  To fire four shots in rapid progression in such a high pressure situation, with that impressive accuracy, at the very least seems not easy.

CBS recreates the shot.
Okay, this seems difficult, but not impossible, as long as you keep your composure.  I didn't realize how close Oswald was to JFK during the shooting, doesn't make SS look good even if they didn't accidentally discharge into Kennedy's head.

Quote from: DGuller on November 21, 2023, 01:17:51 AMI don't subscribe to any conspiracy theories regarding JFK assassination, but the official explanation seems like a one in a million series of shots.  The weapon was a bolt action rifle firing rounds powerful enough to enter and exit a Texas governor 10 times.  I imagine that after firing and cycling such a rifle, you would have to find the target again in your telescopic sights, which might take a moment or two for someone who hasn't shot at US presidents before.  However, this rookie managed to land not one, but two shots, in the head and neck area of a non-stationary target, with a second and fourth shot respectively.  And then at the end of it all another rookie with no skin in the game decides to just go and shoot the assassin while he's surrounded by all sorts of armed guys, because why not?

Oswald wasn't a rookie, though.

He wasn't a rookie at assassinations either.  He made an attempt on General Edwin Walker.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

The former head of Germany's domestic intelligence agency, Hans-Georg Maaßen (CDU), has said that the immigration of "culturally foreign" immigrants is like a cancer unto Germany and that Germany needs a chemotherapy. Also, that the current coalition is aiming at replacing the domestic population with immigrants in order to destroy Germany and erect a neo-socialist regime in the ruins.

He previously said that Thüringen's minister president Bodo Ramelow (Die Linke) would turn his state into a Cambodian nightmare.

He should stop holding back and tell us how he really feels.

Quite. Typically cryptic comments from an ex spy boss.

I mean, chemotherapy started with adapted use of mustard gas and adjacent agents, so I feel he's following a certain German tradition.

I've seen some sketchy (hah!) court portraits over the years, but this one of Sam Bankman-Fried is something else. :D

A bit too early in the process for the electrical chair, I would think.

If I were him I'd be very happy with that.

Extraordinary images out of the Dublin riots last night. Never seen anything like it before from Ireland.
https://youtu.be/0j0t38f0w88

Still sorting through trying to work out quite what happened but it started with far right street violence following the stabbing of two children, which left them injured (the rumours were by an immigrant, but I don't know if that's confirmed yet). But it then looks like basically every scally in the city took the chance to do some light looting and fight the Gardai.

Not clear if anything will happen tonight.

Saw some discussion on it that spoke of the Irish government's failure to address a number of issues, especially in Dublin - housing (costs massively up), asylum (bringining people in and abandoning them, leading to predictable problems), hollowing out in policing (unresponsive, creating a general sense of lawlessness, casual violence, and opportunistic theft), lack of social services and support (essentially abandoning people, leading to predictable results) - and that the riot was triggered by a combination of all those factors.

Nice win for my Michigan team in the last real iteration of The Game.  Even better than beating OSU was giving a big "fuck you" to Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti.  He did his best to fuck over the Michigan team, but still failed.  Burned his bridges with Michigan for nothing.

Onward.
