Church plays featuring pop culture characters getting crucified (Jack Sparrow died for our sins!)

Big fan of their version of Indiana Jones that destroys idols instead of putting them in a museum because idolatry is evil.

Am more offended that the Nazi is apparently also a USAF enlisted service member.

Seems rather Talibanesque to destroy historical artifacts because they don't match your religion.

I actually heard it first used by Australians when I was travelling in Europe in the 80s.

I think it's likely that Canadians picked up on the Australian slang, and we have now transferred it to the Americans.

Last time a tree fell it was big news. Trying to recapture lightning in a bottle :P

Just read a stat that in Spain there are 1.5 dogs for each child under 14 and I'm starting to wonder whether they are, in fact, a parasitic species. A very adorable one

I wouldn't go so far as to call kids parasites :P

Could say so to an extent. Literally speaking. They have specifically evolved to mimic babies and endear love. Albeit in a less sinister fashion than cats.

More  accurately mutalistic is the proper term though. There's mutual benefits. Historically human civilization owes it's existence to dogs and these days the health benefits even a useless lapdog can bring still matter and it's not like they take a huge amount of our resources. People not having kids is down to other reasons.

Kids on the other hand yes. Fair to call them parasites I say. Quite a long term pay off there. :p
