However, I expect the current spread into the US is due to Letterkenney - and thus Canadian slang even if Aussies also use the term.

Letterkenney?

Also do we know this term is widely used by American youth or is it more regional?

It's a funny show, though I'll admit I've only watched a few episodes.

It's one of those things that could only come about in the 21st century - a youtube series, that then got picked up by a (then) new Canadian streaming platform Crave, that then got picked up by Hulu to some small level of fame.

I did get hooked though on the hockey-based spin-off show Shoresy.  Second season dropped just recently, still working my way through.

It's like saying "What is the plural of Josquis"?  There's only one of you.

John Smith is a common name. There probably are conventions where lots of John Smiths meet.
Similarly Micky Mouse is a popular character with lots of iterations.
There definitely can be multiple mickys in some setting at the same time.

Wrong answer - the plural of Josquis is clearly Josquii.

This is a common misconception based on the assumption that Josquis is derived from Latin.  Since it actually comes from Greek the proper plural is Josquodes
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

Dated a girl from Northern Ontario for about five years. Visited her family and all.

I'm no expert, but I do know that one thing at least.

Mickey Mouses since it is the plural of a proper noun and not an actual group of mice.

The town had a junior hockey team close by, and had some overlapping social circles with my girlfriend. There were also nearby towns of Franco-Ontarians. The vibe was very much Letterkenney, only more trees.

They weren't exactly my people - being a scarf-wearing, European, big city kid as I was - but they were good people.

If you ignore the style of the show (in that everyone talks really fast and has tons of quips and jokes) the overall setting is absolutely something I'm familiar with from prairie small towns, even though while I didn't wear a scarf or come from Europe I was still a big city kid.
