The Larch

Quote from: celedhring on February 13, 2023, 05:02:24 AMOut of my head my bets would've been Rosa Klebb or Mayday. Klebb has one of my favorite camp-Bond scenes of all time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVowL8yrZVM&ab_channel=JamesBond007

I remember Sophie Marceau's character wanted to blow up Istambul or something like that, which probably puts her as *potentially* the deadliest.

Both Klebb and Mayday did remarkably well, in fact I believe they were one of the QF matches.

Love the "henchmen" school scene.

It's British, and you can expect plenty of snark and witticisms in almost every video. They do have shorter movie reviews, longer documentaries on classic stuff, and the ocasional special, like this Bond Girl tournament. They'll do a Bond henchmen tournament next.

'Mission to Mars' a turkey or what; who knew 21st space expedition would be largely constructed out of wood.

And the utterly predictable dialogue and low impact acting also makes it a low CO2 pollution event, Don Cheadle fails least, but still seems embarassed.

Remember watching that one at the cinema. Fortunately, I did not pay much, I had a flat rate cinema card, which made watch turkeys more often than not.

PS: don't worry, I was not expecting something along the lines of Body Double, Dressed to Kill, Scarface, The Untouchables...:P

Mission to Mars is mercenary work, and thus flat and dull for a De Palma flick. Usually, even when his movies are bad they are quite the ride.

Incidentally, De Palma has the largest amount of "I don't know if this is awful or amazing" movies (to me) of any filmmaker: Phantom of the Paradise, Femme Fatale, Snake Eyes, Raising Cain...

Josquius

Mercenary work?

I remember that film. There was also Red Planet at the same time. They came out when I was super into Mars and annoyed me greatly for being silly fantasy sci fi rather than realistic takes on a mission to Mars.
See also the recent French series on the same topic;

He was brought in at the eleventh hour to replace the previous director. It's not something like Mission Impossible where he was there from early on and helped shape the film.

Heh, I'd largely forgotten about those films, other than Untouchables that's often on terrestial tv, maybe I should watch one or two of them?

Don't forget your tracksuit for Scarface.  :P Or make it just a double bill with Carlito's Way, another great gangster movie.

He has other very significant movies such as Phantom of the Paradise, Carrie or Blow Out

The Brain

The White Lotus, S1-S2. Guests and staff at a luxury hotel encounter drama and worse. I think it's great, I was very entertained. NB I don't know if it has been accused of homophobia. My impression is that it isn't homophobic, but a case could certainly be made that it is.
Women want me. Men want to be with me.

Homosexual bosses abusing employees, a whole coterie of homosexuals allegedly (true or not? the audience decides) plotting bloody murder...

I don't think so because it's too camp, has Jennifer Coolidge and, in any event, gays love a queer-coded villain especially if they are explicitly queer

Yeah, as far as I know, gays love it.
