I don't know about the rest of you, but the Iggles Implosion this season is the bestest early Christmas present yet.

Kenny Britt
Sidney Rice
Jahvid Best
Donald Jones

My wife is overjoyed.  She hates teams that are too aggressive in free agency, so this year the Jets and Eagles are the enemy in this house.  Except for Jim Leonhard.

What the fuck?????  TJ Yates just threw the ball away into the ground about 8 yards downfield, and they just called it a fumble!  They're calling penalties on both teams because both of their special teams guys were coming out.

What.  The.  Fuck.  Atlanta just got the ball on the 35.  Granted, that's better than the TOUCHDOWN THEY WERE ORIGINALLY GOING TO AWARD THEM (!!), but still I don't understand how they think the ball went so far down the field with a guy hitting him in the face if his hand wasn't going forward.  It didn't just levitate up out of his hand and fly into the ground just in front of a covered WR....

Maybe 10 maybe 7.  I'm not rewinding to look at the exact yardage like it makes some sort of difference, Tim.

Aw man.  Johnson just dropped a really nice pass by Yates.

Punting it away up only 3-0.  Yates hasn't looked too bad, really.  The guy certainly isn't afraid of throwing the ball downfield.

Did the officials or the tv commentators have some sort of explanation?

Officials didn't say shit, except to charge Houston with a timeout and a challenge and to give both teams penalties.  Announcers and their ref "expert" (is it Pierera, or however that is spelled, on Fox?)  were wondering how it could possibly be called a fumble.

Ohhhhhhh Yates with the 50 yard fumble to Andre Johnson!  Only got to the 4 though.  Too bad his first TD pass didn't happen like that.

He fumbled it either into the endzone or the 1-cm line.  That should be a touchdown.

I changed the channel after being mind-numbingly bored by the Steelers and Bengals, so I missed the beginning of the first quarter.  From what I've seen, Yates looks like he might just be a baller.  He's attacking the Falcons and making it work even though the Falcons are staying committed to a run game that the Falcons are bottling up.

That was a pretty slick move to avoid that sack and throw it away.

E: And I don't know if that was intentional, but that was a good throwaway over Fosters head to keep it from being a -5 yard loss or whatever it would have been.  No chance on that sack though.

I figured he was protecting his receiver by overthrowing him, and commented to my wife that it was a smart move.  The Falcons seemed to figure something out with that interior pressure right at the end though, so maybe we'll see some more blitzes up the middle in the second half.

Not too crazy about the decision to try a really long FG there.  Gave the Falcons excellent field position, and now they're down inside the 40.

Doh Ryan just threw that up and Jones caught it.   Aw and a blown coverage gives them an easy TD.  TJ Yates time to shine, I guess.

I was thinking to myself 'MBM just shit his pants twice in a minute-and-a-half.'

And if he didn't throw that ball, he would have been blown up from behind by Biermann, which would probably have been a turnover.  They really got bailed out by that hold by Robinson.

  Yeah there was nothing good going on on that play at all except for Dunta's hold.

I enjoyed the drive that came after it quite a bit though.  Thank god for Arian Foster and Ben Tate.  Yates pulled it down and took off for a nice little run too.

Nice win by the Texans there.

You know, the Texans might just win out, with play like that.  I mean, the Bengals will be a tough game, and the Titans aren't a joke, but Houston is going to the playoffs, and the worst they'll do is 3rd seed.

I get to look forward to Snyder's sniveling apology at the end of the year at least.

Not the Danny.  Somebody will get fired in the front office.  Knowing how classy he is, it'll probably be the 56 year old secretary that needs the paycheck.

I just hope he actually doesn't fire Shanahan.  He has to leave one of these clowns in there for four or five years to actually give them a chance.  And sense that would be a good plan he probably will fire Shanahan.

Giants played pretty well, but Packers also played pretty bad.  A lot of dropped balls.

I enjoyed all the slo mo shots of the QBs getting racked.  Did not enjoy the shot of Quarless' leg getting bent like a pretzel.

Andre Johnson's injury may not be as serious as initially thought.  As in, he might be back if they get into the playoffs.

Hartmann was on crutches, so the Texans are probably going to be shopping for punters.  His injury might have happened because he stepped in one of the "seams" that are between the little trays of grass.  Uh...here:

You can see the trays here
(https://languish.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi40.tinypic.com%2F2vj1l4p.jpg&hash=3b18e8db702b0701df7645021a41ff3b9b9c0c62)
A seam

This also may have contributed to Johnson's injury.  There was a high school championship game on the field yesterday, so they had to replace some chunks of it, resulting in the patchwork look and parts of the field being a different....feel?....vs. others.  Like one square will be really soft-like, the next might be kinda hard, and so on.

I wish they'd just install field turf or something like that and just be done with this "live grass in a dome" thing.   Especially if they're going to have high school games and bowl games and shit there the day before the Texans play.  The Alamodome might not have the best, top of the line surface (something called Soft Top), but when I was down there I'll be damned if that shit didn't feel EXACTLY the same everywhere I went on it.

Indeed.  I mean, I know Seattle made the playoffs last year, and St Louis was supposed to be good this year, but the rule for the NFC West is that either 1 or 0 teams will be good during any given season.  If you're a network thinking about broadcasting an NFC West division game, it'd be a good idea to think twice.

I just encountered an interesting statistic today.  Apparently, the list of the winningest QBs in the NFL since 2008 are as follows:

Tom Brady: 34
Phillip Rivers: 35 (+2 postseason)
Peyton Manning: 36 (+2 postseason)
Aaron Rodgers: 39 (+4 postseason)
Ben Roethlisberger: 39 (+5 postseason)
Matt Ryan: 40
Drew Brees: 41 (+3 postseason)

and in #1...

Joe Flacco: 41 (+4 postseason)

Colt McCoy: 247-428 2,524 yds 14 Tds 9 Ints 76.9 rating

Joe Flacco: 240-434 2,895 yds 13 Tds 8 Ints 78.3 rating

When your stats are comparable to a 2nd year guy on the worst offense in the league you might not be very good.  Just saying.

Patriots suck, Tim.  They're irrelevant.  We all know that even if they lock up the #2 seed, they're going to get crushed on divisional weekend by the Steelers, who won't tolerate their no-defence bullshit and can easily beat Brady.

Now, Flacco has a lot of help from his defence and Ray Rice winning those games, but he still deserves some credit.  The Ravens have always had a devastating defence and a strong run game, but they didn't win consistently until Flacco and Harbaugh came to town.  Flacco is the best QB the team has ever had, and with him the team always has a chance in the passing game.

At any rate I don't think that Flacco is a better QB than Brees, Manning or Rodgers.  The reason I posted the stat is that you'd never guess that the winningest QB of the last four years is a guy whose stats are pretty average.  It struck me as a funny bit of sports trivia.

Colt's got 1/5 of a line, basically no receivers, a broken running game for most of this year, a totally new system to run this year, and no offensive coordinator because Mike Holmgren is a fucking idiot and gave first time first year head coach Pat Shurmer those duties.  All things considered, I'm rather surprised he's still alive and able to do anything.  Flacco has it made in comparison.

Hey on try number three, Old Man Garcia will be joining the Texans after all!  Super Bowl!

QuoteThe Texans are going to sign quarterback Jeff Garcia and punter Matt Turk.

Garcia, 41, is replacing Kellen Clemens, who was placed on waivers today.

Garcia, who played for quarterbacks coach Greg Knapp at San Francisco, worked out for the Texans in each of the last two weeks. They wanted two veterans to play behind rookie T.J. Yates. Jake Delhomme was signed last week and was the No. 2 quarterback for Sunday's 17-10 victory over Atlanta.

The Texans placed punter Brett Hartmann on injured reserve. He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee during the Falcons game.

Turk, 43, was one of the punters who auditioned today. He punted for the Texans from 2007-2010. After last season, he signed with Jacksonville but was placed on waivers.

I don't know what the deal was with Clemens.  He was in Houston for two games, but was never activated, while Cajun Jake was activated immediately.  Maybe hurt, or was looking like a retard trying to pick up the offense, or just looked worse than he did when they worked all the QBs out.  Whatever it was, he's gone.

Turk sucks as a punter these days, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they went ahead and signed him anyway, simply because the punter is also the holder for Rackers and Turk has done that before.
