Bummer about Gary, but the Texans need to go in another direction, one that doesn't involve injuries and free agent losses.

It's coming down in buckets today. If these were Bud Grant's Vikings, I'd be worried.
But, they offended the football gods by playing indoors, which is why neither they nor the Detroit Lions will ever win a Super Bowl.
Then how do you explain the Colts and Saints :P
They didn't play in the Norris Division.
Reggie Bush apparently slipped and injured himself while warming up in the blizzard in Philly. He's going to take my fantasy team's playoff chances with him. :bleeding:
Holy shit Seedy. That snow is really coming down. It looks like Alberta out there.
Yeah, we're not too used to this. We're only supposed to get about 3 inches or so, but it looks like it's going to be more, and the bad news is they're calling for it to turn to ice later on and into tomorrow AM.
The Detroit - Philly game is a shitty mess. No one can hold on to the ball. Hey Foles just threw his first pick too.
Detroit isn't kicking FGs or PATs either. They just passed up a FG attempt from the ~15ish, then went for 2 after they got in the endzone. 8-0.
Crazy game in Philly. Looks like there's more than 10cms of snow on the field. Is it the slippery surface that makes kicking impossible or the precipitation?
Ugh...to have the season end to the Vikings...:bleeding: They at least could've waited until the Patriots game.
Oh, the huge manatee.
Or maybe to have the Ravens not lose? Fear Jacoby Jones.
No, never mind.

The Patriots were down by 9. They score a touchdown (a somewhat debatable one, since it looked like the ball came out when he got hit), and then the Patriots onside kick. It looked like the Patriots touched it before it went ten yards, but if the Browns got it back, the Patriots lose. So the Patriots recovered. Then, they threw a pass interference flag to set the Patriots up on the 1. Patriots just won.

How much bullshit can you stack up before people just refuse to buy in anymore? I'm getting very, very tired of the NFL.
Of course it works out that way. New England is one of the priority franchises; Cleveland is not.
In a way, I'm glad I'm a retired Browns fan. I don't see how anybody can root for that team for any great length of time in life without it ending prematurely, either via cardiac arrest or suicide.

You didn't see the wild-ass lateral party at the end, then. It resulted in Antonio Brown running for the game-winning touchdown, but having called back because he touched the bounds line at the 13 with his foot. Since time ran out during the play, Pittsburgh lost automatically.
That was hilarious.

That first touchdown wasn't debatable and the kicker did not touch the ball on the off side kick.
The pass interference flag was pretty bad though. There were several calls on both sides in this game that was ridiculous. The officiating has been terrible this year.

Froze my ass off yesterday during the game. I was just a few short feet away from those awesome new heated benches with special vented footrests. We had the flaps down around our awning, which formed a little tent of sorts. Helped keep the wind out, at least.
Anywho, it was a fun game in any case and at in the first half it didn't look like a dome team like Indy knew how to handle actual winter weather. Once we leave the field after the game, we watch the end of the other games or start of the late afternoon games in the video room. Everything looked great in the Ravens--Vikings & Patriots-Browns games. Could have given the Bungles the #2 AFC seed for the time being and virtually sealed the AFC North title. One or the other would have been nice. But having both end up not going our way was a bit of a bummer.
Foles threw an interception. They should probably bench him.

Very interesting, though hard to say how true it is. Basically saying that Mike Shanahan checked out last year and has slowly been leaking info to make himself and his son look good before their departure after they've done fuckall for the skins.
Ah drama, backstabbing, and chaos. It is the one thing the Redskins lead the league in under Snyder.

I already explained to you the plausible deniability factor involved in Priority Franchise Theory. Steelheads can't get all the calls all the time, that would expose the League Office.
And besides, I neither saw the game nor the highlights, so I can't make a definitive statement at this time regarding that particular play. But you're forgetting an adjunct corollary to Priority Franchise Theory: the importance and impact of the opponent is taken into consideration, too. In yesterday's case, the Miami Dolphins simply weren't that important to intervene against.
But the Dolphins got the W, right? So shut the fuck up already about it.

That made me chuckle, since I was saying last year that the reality was that the replacements, as a group, were probably about as good as the regular officials, absent the same level of experience with the NFL, and the idea that the mistakes being made were somehow of a different nature than what are made with regular NFL officials was completely bogus.
The reality is this: The NFL has the best officials possible, and even then, the best are still going to screw up, sometimes in critical spots.
I find it rather amusing that people just cannot accept this. You can look at the best players in the game, the guys who are super all starts, the very best of the very best. And they still occasionaly throw interceptions, fumble the ball, drop easily caught passes, miss assingnments, fail to make the obvious tackle, get beat by a pedestrian receiver, etc., etc.
We all understand and accept that - humans, even the best of the very best, are still just humans, and they screw up in a manner that sometimes seems inexplicable.
Why is that when an official messes something up, we cannot just say "Yeah, well, he screwed up. It happens"? Instead we have to come up with conspiracy theories and question their motives. Does anyone claim that the players intentionally drop passes to make sure the right team wins because the NFL loves the Patriots?
Is that any more plausible than the idea that the officials are "screwing up" intentionally to serve some greater agenda?

I don't recall you posting this last year (not disputing that you did post it, just that I don't recall it), but FWIW I agree that the replacement refs overall did about as good a job as the regulars. I caught hell for saying as much on the Sport Mogul forums.

What the heck are you talking about? The AFC is an absolute trainwreck outside of KC, Denver, and New England.
NFC's a bunch of finesse-play pretty boys. They can't handle the physicality of the AFC.

Very true, but it's made for some wicked exciting games. I can't remember a more entertaining regular season. Brady has already lead the team to five comeback wins!

That is not a stat you want your team leading in.

I have to admit I am being blinded by all the drama around the Skins and Texas recently and have not been paying as close of attention as maybe I should. If the Bungles are on a hot streak good for them.
Cinci is playing pretty well, but really inconsistent. This should be their year to reach the AFC championship, but I don't see them getting past Denver at all, to be honest.

Dalton has been inconsistent for part of the season, but not really the rest of the team. And even with his inconsistency, the defense kept them in the game. They're 7-2 in their last nine games and both losses were in OT.

If they just win one playoff game just to get that monkey off the team's back I'll be reasonably satisfied. But assuming that happens, I would say they have something of a shot at beating Manning in the playoffs-- assuming someone else doesn't do it first.

What a load of horseshit.
He didn't go low on Gronk because he was afraid of getting fined for hitting him in the head - he went low because if he had went anywhere else Gronkowski wouldn't even have noticed he was there, and they would still be picking bits and pieces of him out of the turf.
Gronkowski is 6'6" and 270 lbs. Ward is more than half a foot shorter and probably 75 lbs lighter. He went low because that is the only way to bring someone like Gronkowski down.

Disagree. Particularly when you look at divisions, there are differences.

By the time he was hit, he might not have been defenseless anyways. He had taken a couple of steps and turned around, so a headshot might have been legal anyways. The reason he went low on Gronkowski is because that's the only way that a small DB can tackle a monster like that. That said, it does seem to me (just from the games I've watched) that guys are going low more often than they used to.

The main difference is in media coverage. The media will pretend that the NFC East is interesting and important no matter what. The NFC North also gets a lot of love no matter how crappy it is, but at least it's a good division right now.

NFC North is weak this year compared to the last several?
And the NFC Least is no different than the AFC Least, which has the pats.
Take off your bias caps, boys.
I've always been an NFC guy and i think the NFC East is an embarrasment this year.
The differences in the conferences were much more delineated before true free agency in '93.
Nowadays, the only real differences you see between the conferences are teams that design themselves to compete against their divisional rivals, and the competitiveness that comes from the coaching trees.

No, the NFC North is pretty good an entertaining the last couple of years compared to recently. There are three good teams in there, and even Minnesota can be fun. I'm thinking about those years when I started watching the NFL, when the Packers ruled that division the way the Patriots rule the AFC East, but somehow Bears-Packers was considered to be a great rivalry game. These days though, the Bears, Packers and Lions are all good fun. NFC West is good too.
And at least the AFC East has one good team in it, even if that team is pure evil. The NFC East has four bad teams in it.
Four bad, marquee, tradition rich teams.

Dan Fouts: Brent, I think that was a Die Hard car battery. The fans aren't holding anything back now.
Eagles have played 5 games in a crap division and haven't beaten a single strong team outside the division.
The will probably reach the playoffs by default by beating up on weaklings and because Dallas is even more full of fail then they are, but it doesn't make them a good team.
Gives me no great pleasure to say this as it only underlines how badly the Giants have sucked this year but truth is truth.
