Man who would have thought the Cowboys would melt down in December like this?

At least it was the defense instead of Romo.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

But that's unpossible.

The NFC is such a sideshow, innit?

The talking heads are putting Seachickens and niners as 1-2 in the power rankings in front of Denver.   :contract:

I find it interesting that with the (preceived) officiating screw ups this week, one of the comments was made was "This isn't any better than the replacements!".

That made me chuckle, since I was saying last year that the reality was that the replacements, as a group, were probably about as good as the regular officials, absent the same level of experience with the NFL, and the idea that the mistakes being made were somehow of a different nature than what are made with regular NFL officials was completely bogus.

The reality is this: The NFL has the best officials possible, and even then, the best are still going to screw up, sometimes in critical spots.

I find it rather amusing that people just cannot accept this. You can look at the best players in the game, the guys who are super all starts, the very best of the very best. And they still occasionaly throw interceptions, fumble the ball, drop easily caught passes, miss assingnments, fail to make the obvious tackle, get beat by a pedestrian receiver, etc., etc.

We all understand and accept that - humans, even the best of the very best, are still just humans, and they screw up in a manner that sometimes seems inexplicable.

Why is that when an official messes something up, we cannot just say "Yeah, well, he screwed up. It happens"? Instead we have to come up with conspiracy theories and question their motives. Does anyone claim that the players intentionally drop passes to make sure the right team wins because the NFL loves the Patriots?

Is that any more plausible than the idea that the officials are "screwing up" intentionally to serve some greater agenda?
"If you think this has a happy ending, then you haven't been paying attention."

I don't recall you posting this last year (not disputing that you did post it, just that I don't recall it), but FWIW I agree that the replacement refs overall did about as good a job as the regulars.  I caught hell for saying as much on the Sport Mogul forums.

Well yeah, they play in the NFC.  That'll inflate it a few spots.

What the heck are you talking about?  The AFC is an absolute trainwreck outside of KC, Denver, and New England.

NFC's a bunch of finesse-play pretty boys.  They can't handle the physicality of the AFC.

And New England is shaky.  They have had too many comeback wins against middling teams this year.

Very true, but it's made for some wicked exciting games. I can't remember a more entertaining regular season. Brady has already lead the team to five comeback wins!
