Ryan was seeing the writing on the wall and wants to be in place to pick up the pieces of the GOP and lead its rebuilding post-Trump. He's made noises about how the GOP needs to learn from the primary debacle and focus more on supporting lower and middle class Americans, but we'll see what happens.

Not so fast!

What we're seeing is a very natural and predictable "rally around the nominee" effect for Republicans (and Clinton has not seen such an effect).  But even now Trump isn't winning in the polls.
