Leaked email from Colin Powell (he has confirmed they are genuine apparently)

"I would rather not have to vote for her, although she is a friend I respect. A 70-year-old person with a long track record, unbridled ambition, greedy, not transformational, with a husband still dicking bimbos at home (according to the NYP)."

Yikes!

Sounds pretty accurate though.

Is a long track record a bad thing?

And yeah, I'd guess a heady dose of ambition might be needed to be the first woman president.

What relevance does her husband dicking bimbos have?

I read that as 'a long track record of unbridled ambition and greed'.

Oh, so you just wrote your own sentence. :P

Well, actually that would be YOU who wrote your own sentence.

Powell said "Unbridled ambition" along with "greed" which you deftly changed to a "healthy does of ambition". Those are very different concepts - one is clearly a negative, since it implies that her ambition and greed may overcome her discretion or integrity, while the other is a clear positive in the healthy ambition is a pre-requisite for success.

Given her track record, a concern over "unbridled ambition" is perfectly reasonable.

At any rate, the husband bit still strikes me as irrelevant to whether or not to vote for someone.

The reasoning (whether you agree or not) is this: that it goes to the very mercenary nature of their relationship.  If Bill and Hillary had a marriage based on love she would have dumped his ass years ago.  But because she benefits from being married to a serial philanderer she stays with him.

Which goes nicely with Powell's assessment of her greed and unbridled ambition.

The problem with this reasoning is that marriage partners put up with cheating spouses all the time, without any obvious benefits; and in those cases, we usually conclude that the poor saps being cheated on put up with it exactly *because* they (poor deluded fools) are in "love" with their spouse, and can't bear to part with them despite their cheating ways.

Seems a lot of parsing over Powell's words in emails that may have been quickly composed without much thought, and when the overall message is clear: he does not like the idea of voting for Hillary, but the alternative is unacceptable.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

A career military man demonstrating acute contempt for civilian politicians?  Yeah, that never happens.

Languish's attempts to bully me into voting for Illary have failed.

Okay, I'm voting Trump now.  Twice.
