- He nearly loses Charles' favour when he's caught in flagrante by Charles with another royal romp - his own cousin (Charlie's reaction: 'I forgive you, you are a sad rascal, but you only do it to earn your bread' - true enough: the mistress pays him  5,000 pounds!)

I think you confuse "his own cousin" with Barbara Villiers, Duchess of Cleveland (she was George, Duke of Buckingham's cousin, not Charles'), Charles's long-standing official (if waning) mistress whose bed he hadn't visited for months. Villiers actually paid Churchill for having sex with him as a gigolo, which he did only for the money, investing it in a pension. Charles quiped that it was the first time money from her pocket went as far as to see the bottom of a bank, so he let him go loose.

Villiers was notoriously promiscuous, and yes it was known she was sleeping with Buckingham and even the Duke of Monmouth, Charles' son. So Charles wasn't surprised to see her with another man. What he was surprised with is that Churchill would stoop so low as to sleep with her as well. When he understood she had been very insistent and he was doing it for the money, the King was amused.

No, I meant the future Duke of Marlborough John Churchill's own cousin, not the King's cousin. Barbara Villers was John Churchill's second cousin.

Another fun fact: the pension he invested his gigolo-money in was an annuity, which paid a good rate because the investors assumed, given his habits, he would die young.  :D

Of course. It's just that it makes him look like an immature idiot.  :bowler:

Job satisfaction is a good thing.

Also, the Taliban were hurt by his comment as well.

Seriously?  Do young soldiers in German history talk like ivory tower philosophers or something?

He's been doing his duty.  He can bloody well say whatever he wants about it.
Remember where Zanza is from.  The German spirit has been broken, and anyone taking pride in their accomplishments is 'immature'.

If a young soldier in Germany ever shot someone, he'd be charged with murder.

I actually find it amusing that the savages with their godly Jihad are being shredded with a 20 mm minigun by a dim-witted happy-go-lucky lad with half a mind on his CoD score.

Do we know that Harry is especially dim?

No more dim than most are in their 20's I reckon.

He seems to be a fairly normal British army subaltern who is not destined to go far. Nothing wrong with that.

In the old days, he'd be destined to be a field marshal.

Yeah has to suck for them to see how little we actually care about them as enemies. What a downward plunge from the heady days of 2001.

Good point, he is what he is.

Though I' liked the distinction between the two jobs of solider and Prince.
I suspect he's somewhat more worldy than a lot of then, having to deal with the Press, whilst remembering one part of it had a role in the death of his mother.
