All the clubs were warned not to do anything to create a competitive advantage when the salary cap came back, and that's what [the Redskins] did," said one of the people familiar with the matter. "They were very obvious about it. A lot of people were very angry about it. The ramifications could have been far worse for them. They could have lost draft picks. Some people recommended that to the commissioner."

According to that person, the Redskins reworked some player contracts to pay them large sums during the uncapped 2010 season and save money against the cap in subsequent years. The person said the Redskins, in large part because of those maneuvers, had a player payroll far in excess of other teams' payrolls

Lolz

I mean how stupid can you be?  And how is losing $36 million of a $120 million dollar salary cap better than losing a few draft picks?

Not to mention that crazy Dan's "competitive advantage" was good for giving tons of money to Albert Haynesworth?  I cannot wait for the book on this dude's ownership of the Skins to be written.  This is just hilarious.

Matt Leinart has been released by the Texans.

Along with Eric Winston.   I don't like that at all.
The Texans are so used to having a shitty line that you would think that they wouldn't take it for granted.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

Saints resigned Colston.

Redskins agreed to terms with Pierre Garcon.  EDIT: At least according to Garcon.

Dolphins traded Brandon Marshal to the Bears for 2 3rd round picks.  I wonder what that means for the Manning sweepstakes.  Did the Dolphins bail out and are getting ready to start over or are they clearing the way for the big reunion of Manning, Wayne and Clark in South Beach?

Chris Myers is supposedly wanting nearly $60 million from the Texans, so that isn't going to be happening.  He'll be hitting the FA market, although aside from the Redskins (according to Valmy, they have a good young line already), Texans, and Chargers (just resigned their C), I can't really think of where he's going to go as an undersized, pure zone blocking C.  The Redskins and Texans O schemes are almost identical, so he'd fit in well in Washington, but what are the other teams that run zones?

Lawrence Vickers was also cut by Houston.  Sort of an extra dude there.

Oh it looks like they'll be going with Butler at RT.  I had forgotten about him, since he didn't play much last year due to an injury.  He's better at pass protection than Winston, not as good at run blocking. vOv

The line could just end up as Duane Brown - Wade Smith - Antoine Caldwell <-> Mike Brisiel (needs to be resigned, could be C) - Rashad Butler.  It would still all be dudes that were either starters or have had significant playing time.  The big loss would be depth.

Since when do centres make anything even remotely close to that?  Is he under the impression that he's a left tackle?

Mangold got a 7 yr/55 million contract a few years back.

Yeah, there was some comparison to Mangold's contract when they were talking about what Myers (supposedly, this isn't something I know for sure, of course) wanted.  $57.4 over 8 years with 25 guaranteed is what has been reported.  Except instead of being what, 26 like Mangold was, Myers is already 30.  It's just too big of a number.

I was shocked when I saw that report.  He's really picked it up and played well for the last couple of seasons, but before that, tbh he wasn't really anything special.

E:  This is what he was more known for a couple years ago:

The guy getting thrown aside is Myers.  On its own, it's really just a bad play that can happen to any lineman, but he kind of regularly got shoved around by DLs.  He just couldn't hold up against them as much as you would like.  A while back, I even started a spring training thread here where the first photos out of camp were of #55 getting pushed around and/or holding on for dear life.  I wonder what Schaub was thinking right when he saw that guy coming free. "Holy shit I'm going to die"

The all white uniforms fucking rule though.

Reggie Wayne has decided to stay with the Colts.

That makes the Dolphins' trade of Marshall curiouser.

Some dude in Buffalo is saying Mario Williams has signed a $110 million deal with them.  If true, enjoy...uh...several more Lamborghinis, Mario.  Maybe he'll get a Veyron or something even more ridiculous (he's a car guy and already has the newest Lambo Aventador) instead.

E: I look forward to new airstrip videos from Buffalo or wherever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQtUP-7_HtA

I wonder how fast it would go with just one normal sized person in it, instead of a huge monster like Williams.

If it really went down as reported that is a horrible move.  And by horrible I mean typical.

This chick here: http://twitter.com/#!/AllieFontana  is saying the Texans have announced the release of Stone Hands Jones.

There was a press conference an hour and a half ago that I didn't watch, but there's nothing on the official site about him being cut.  I WANT TO BELIEVE

E:   She has deleted it now.

Niners re-signed Carlos Rodgers, so have kept all 11 starters from the D. :yeah:
