I'd be interested in seeing the actual server metrics from the game on side and class, actually.  I bet 45% of the total Empire population is Sith Inquisitor, with an additional 40% as Sith Warrior.

Nah it's more like
40% SI
30% Warrior
25% BH's
5% IA :P

I've determined that Smugglers are a little too underpowered to handle the PVP pew pew (although they're great in PVE with their companions), and I've seen high-40s Smugglers just getting ass raped in PVP over and over--which is why I'm twinking out a Jedi Consular.  He's all goodie-goodie Light side.  Should've named him Berkut.

I suck at PvP and I still kill more than I die with my operative, who has no PvP gear. It's about picking your fights rather than leaping into the fray.

So, how are people enjoying this game? Is it as fun as WoW was seven years ago, or merely something to pass the time?

This thread is really long. I suppose that's a good sign.

It's nowhere near as deep our as huge as WoW, but WoW's had damned near 8 years to get as massive as it has.

SWTOR is fun;  if you can get the better part of a year out of it, it's worth it.  And they're obviously committed to adding more content over time.

Solmyr

It's fun if you enjoy leveling and storylines and are not immediately looking to jump into raiding.

I played through the Jedi Knight prelude this weekend and actually found it very enjoyable... I think I like it the best of all of the preludes I've played so far (Sith Inquisitor, Bounty Hunter, and then this one).

I did catch "American Buffalo" in town a couple months ago; one of the better presentations at Center Stage, who has a new artsy-fartsy we-haff-to-embrace-faggitry-and-black-pipple Artistic Director, which means that now we have to get a shit ton of obscure "diversity", and not the good stuff either.
I see one more August Wilson shit plate on the calendar, I'm swapping out my season tickets and hauling ass to the Folger in DC.
We actually cancelled our season tickets to Actors' Theatre (regional theater here in town) for that very reason.  It used to be like a 50/50 mix of good shit and wingnut nonsense, but it was tilting more toward 90/10 in favor of PC junk.

I mean, I'm all about seeing cutting-edge new playwrights--and there are a few that I enjoy--but there are far too many classics that I haven't seen yet.

I still enjoy it. I tried playing some alts this weekend (my smuggler, a new jedi knight and my bounty hunter), but my Sith Warrior is so close to finishing her story line now (level 47) that I want to do that first. And then maybe solo all those heroics I didn't find PUGs/guildies for. :P Still, it took me almost 8 weeks to get where I'm at, so I'm not complaining.

But yeah, after that - raiding is where it's at, I guess. And doing Hard Mode versions of the other flashpoints. Though I guess I'll spend more time levelling alts.

So far I'm very impressed by the game's polish - my main niggle is the inability to scale/move the UI.

UI customization is coming soon apparently, their trailer had demonstration of it.

It's fun for what it is, KOTOR 3 with other people playing too. If you go into it expecting that, you'll like it. PvP is kinda crappy (why are you guys doing PvP in Star Wars and not, say, Darkfall?). The player economy is almost nonexistent with very little reason to even do any crafting. Some updates to that are in the pipeline though. It's Bioware, so the stories are really good.

My Inquisitor Synthweaver has 280k credits at level 25 that says that there is a player economy and plenty of reasons (280,000 of them in fact) to do crafting.

MiM, I am not sure what you mean about there not being an economy.  I assume you mean a balanced economy since goods are selling at such high prices atm.

On another note, I am now entirely conflicted on what class to play.  I have had fun with all of them.

MadImmortalMan

Everything's expensive because everything costs a shit ton to make. So people don't bother and just dump the mats on the market. Consequently, there's hardly anything being sold--so the people who are selling can jack the prices. Which they have to do in order to pay the insane prices for materials. Meanwhile, loot drops and commendation vendors give you better stuff than you can get on the gtn anyway. The tweaks they are talking about doing in the next month do sound like they will help a little though.
