I wasn't aware that Siegy had a Silver Star.  That's pretty awesome.  :)

Yeah, no shit.  Way to go you big Fighting Jew.

What's an ARCOM?

Now he's at John Kerry level!
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Army Commendation Medal.

They are awarded without V for all kinds of shit (I got 3), but with "V" only for valourous actions under enemy fire that do not deserve a Bronze Star with "V".

Medals for valor are:

ARCOM with V
Bronze Star with V
Silver Star (no "V", since it is only given for valor)
Distinguished Service Cross (No V since it is for valor while in command)
Medal of Honor

So medal for valor go from higher to lower:
1- Medal Of Honor (MOH)
2- Distinguished Service Cross (DSC)
3- Silver Star (SS)
4- Bronze Star with V (BSMV)
5- Army Commendation Medal with V (ARCOMV)

Keep in mind though, that the Bronze Star without the V is given to all officers and senior NCOs as an End Of Tour Award.
This is for E-7 and O-1 and above.
E-6 and below, meaning me and Alci, we get an ARCOM (without V) as our End Of Tour Award.

Very informative Seeb.

Great thread, Siege!  :)

And I don't think you have to worry about Afghanistan being over anytime soon. Plenty time to kill savages.

In honour of this thread I've just ordered Ray Ban sunglasses.

Ha! I have an ARCOM, and I'm NAVY, and all I did was my job.

Good to hear from you Siege.

BTW, I second the comment of great thread.

It is not that big of a deal.
I guarantee you that there more than one Raptor in the US Army.
Yeah, but when you go up for war crimes and we hear the commo recording of how Raptor Leader is raping some little girl, we'll know it's you.

I am definitively not gonna use Raptor Leader.
Sounds too Holywood to me.

If your exact call sign is known, and the call sign of others in your platoon also become known, then the combination of that information could be used to help track the deployment of your platoon.

Just b/c a single piece of information is not that useful on its own doesn't mean that it can't become useful in combination with other pieces of information.  Why not err on the safe side?

The info must flow. Languish depends on it.

Just curious how.  Because if he is Raptor what ever, his whole platoon is Raptor (X).   So feasibly you can track his whole platoon already then....But I don't know how you can, or how you'll hack a sincgars to listen in/track him during deployment.

The Taliban scan the net for any and all military information and then act on it. They have already learnt that Swedish coastal rangers are better at English than US soldiers and that the armor of the T-55 is vastly superior to the Abrams.
