And about flying Apaches, you do realize that means being a Warrant Officer instead of being a real officer, right?

You do realize commissioned officers fly, right?  


There are just a lot more responsibilities, being leaders and commanders and all.  Are you even in the army?  

If you are going to fly Apaches, you are going to be a Warrant Officer.
Commissioned Officers in Aviation Units are commanders and they do not fly helicopters.
Warrant officers fly, commissioned officers command.

And yes, I am in the frigging Army.

Nobody gets the "V" unless executing an act of valor to deserve it.
Bronze Stars with V are REALLY hard to come by with.
You don't get them for killing people.
Killing the enemy is your fucking job. No medals for that.
You need to execute an act of valor under enemy fire to get a "V".

Thats why my platoon just put us in for Arcoms V, kept saying it was our job and we agreed.  Tankers put themselves all in for Bronze Stars, pretty sure the V as well, despite us doing all the work, and putting our lives on the line while they hid in their tanks.

End Of Tour Awards are Bronze Stars (without "V") for E-7 and O-1 and above.
Bronze Stars with V, Silver Stars, or Dsitinguished Service Cross, are given ONLY for act of valor under enemy fire.
They have nothing to do with End Of Tour Awards.

During the Surge I got a Silver Star for actions in combat, and an ARCOM (without "V" of course) as an End Of Tour Award.

Then that goes down to your leadership.
They sucked.
I always make sure my soldiers get the valorous awards they deserve.
My leaders do the same for me.
It is called the Chain of Command.

And you do not get valorous awards unless deserved.
I got my Silver Star 6 months after the engagement.
It was investigated 3 times by 3 diferent commissions from the Army.
My SAW gunner, who ran through the bullets with me and which provided the support-by-fire that allowed me to jump into the irrigation ditch the enemy was using as a trench, and thus let me shoot the enemy at point blank and roll over their linear ambush, got his Silver Star, signed by our Battalion Commander, downgraded to a Bronze Star with V.

Do not kid yourself. It is not easy to get an SS, or any other medal for valor for that matter.
