My social media feed is rife with people blaming the Liberal government for the cost of gas. "this is canada, we shouldn't have to import ANYTHING except coffee."

Yeah that is not how that works. Unless they want the Liberal Government to compel Canadian oil companies to intentionally lose billions. I am sure Alberta would love that.

Back in the 70s the then Liberal government tried to bring in the National Energy Program which would have insulated us from the international price of oil.  The loud voices demanding free market pricing won the day.

The reason we are now exposed to these price shocks is hardly the fault of the current government. But I understand that is PPs recent talking point.  He either doesn't know or is counting on his followers not realizing that what he proposing is really just another version of the NEP which was so despised by Alberta back in the day.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

That always seems to be the way in modern politics, completely partisan. In truth most left-of-centre parties would support something like the National Energy Program and the right would go for the free market route. But modern politicians will pretend otherwise for short term electoral advantage. This leads to the rising contempt for politicians amongst the electorate and the temptation to give an outsider a chance; unfortunately the outsider is usually someone absolutely ghastly like Trump or Farage.

By elections on April 13th.

The Libs will get their majority there with their 2 safe ridings in Toronto.
Terrebonne can go one way or the other, imho.
