I believe countervailing tariffs can be introduced by Trudeau almost immediately.

From 2018 I think they'll be intended to respond dollar-for-dollar - that is Canadian tariffs should equal in dollar value the US tariffs.  Of course if they hit us with 25% across the board that means a heck of a lot of US tariffs.  They tried to his politically sensitive industries last time, probably will do so again.  I heard, as just one example, hitting Tesla with 100% tariffs.

They will want to give some kind of financial relief - because tariffs this big will plunge us into deep recession.  That will almost certainly require Parliament to resume.

I agree with GF. Hit them where it hurts. Yes it will hurt Alberta, but subsidize them for a while, and seek another export country. I know it's easier said than done. But it won't last. If we cut off potash and oil American business will be quick to call on Trump to end the Tariff war.

Putting tariffs on fucking orange juice and ketchup, ain't gonna cut it this time.
