If the Feds want to spend less on equalization, then they have to tax less.  Right now, it's a return to the old liberal scheme of starving the provinces.

Again, not spend less - just freeze at current amount (then try to come up with a new system with fewer disincentives).
Costs increases over years (more population + inflation).  If you freeze spending on anything, it is spending less in real $.

Yeah, that is what people advocating a "freeze" fail to recognize.

That sort of policy does not keep the status quo - it means that services will decline.

Here's an interesting story.

QuoteIn late 2010, the government of former Prime Minister Stephen Harper made LGBT Iranians a priority for resettlement, asking the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR) to refer to Canada any Iranians in Turkey fleeing persecution on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Howard Anglin recalls the program starting just before becoming chief of staff to former Immigration Minister Jason Kenney in January 2011. "It's obvious that their lives are in imminent peril in Iran," Anglin tells Xtra.

Canada allowed in roughly a hundred LGBT Iranians between 2009 and 2012, and doubled that rate by mid-2014. They were welcomed by volunteer groups in Toronto, which is home to one of the world's largest Iranian diasporas. Using their contacts abroad, the groups could refer embassy staff in Turkey to some of the most vulnerable LGBT Iranians.

Canada now, however is not accepting any more LGBT refugees - it's all Syrians now.

they don't care.  Only Syrians count, event hose in a house with no roof or no furnitures.

One "nice" thing about the massacre at the Quebec City mosque (not that any such terrible act should ever be described as "nice"):

In the aftermath of the attack the general media consensus has all been about the stigmatization of muslims and how that's completely inappropriate, which is a message I can 100% get behind.  And what the message hasn't been is that we need even more gun control in Canada.

yeah, not many mentionned it.  Having a gun legally purchased and registered didn't prevent the massacre, so they can't really claim it was for lack of that.

Why is Beeb's perusing Daily Xtra?
"I've never been quite sure what the point of a eunuch is, if truth be told. It seems to me they're only men with the useful bits cut off."

I drank because I wanted to drown my sorrows, but now the damned things have learned to swim.

This is the kind of morning weather that makes me want to move to Arizona.

My car got stuck in my driveway took 1 hour to shovel it out.
