Indeed. Vote often, vote early

Yeah, I'm a big believer in participatory democracy.

As for municipal elections - many if not most of the policies that affect day to day life is made on the municipal level.

On a more philosophical level, I believe it's important to always remember that decisions are being made using power delegated by the people to our elected officials. Voting is the most essential way to demonstrate and confirm that.

This is an old text from 2018, not widely circulated at the time.
Some pearls you find sometimes.

It explains why Mexico betrayed Canada in the last trade deal, a subject that often comes back now.  Doug Ford publicly suggested Mexico should be cut out of the deal and we should negotiate a separate deal with the US, while the Trudeau team did nothing to stop him.

It turns out, that's what Canada attempted to do the first time.  The had an handshake deal with Mexico that none of the others would sign a separate deal with the US, but they immediately tried to do it with the US.

Why Mexico stabbed Canada in the back in NAFTA negotiations

Thank 'od Trudeau is no longer in charge, but this is the kind of things that damages our international relations.  No wonder other countries have difficulties trusting us.

Yep. Getting ready for our May elections and I think most of the races are unopposed. Conservatives are only challenging us for one position this time.

I vote in municipal elections but not all categories. I'll vote for the mayor and for my local council, but since the school board has no effect on me, I skip that

Star reports that polls show race tightening. Not that I pay any attention to polls, cause they mean nothing.

My riding is still solidly conservative.

It's a huge riding, but it aligns with what I see on my Facebook feed.  Fuck Trudeau! Crowd.

If maple maga wins then this country learned nothing from its southern neighbour's and deserves what it gets.

Well tightening in the sense that the chance of a liberal majority has gone down at Canada 388 from 95% to 87% but they're still projecting that there's a 99% chance that the liberals win the most seats.

The conservatives are always going to draw their core vote no matter how Trumpy the leader is.

It is accurate to say that something significant might happen between now and election day which alters the result.  But I doubt it.

Apparently, the GOP is trying to overturn a Supreme Court election in North Carolina.  Trying some post-election voter suppression shit.

That is very true.

North Carolina is a very purple state 50-50. But the Republicans managed to gerrymander the legislature back in 2010 so they are basically untouchable. So they really work hard to just keep their power despite the occasional setback from those pesky voters. Just tossing out 65,000 perfectly fine votes after the election is a new one though.

My favorite was when a Democrat became governor and in the few months before he took office they quickly rewrote the Constitution to make the office of governor basically powerless.
