Does anyone else think "Last Week Tonight" with John Oliver is the best investigative journalism show on tv right now? It is purportedly a comedy show but it tackles more serious shit than a lot of technically "serious" tv shows.

When I saw that, I immediatly thought it was referring to the character from M*A*S*H.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).  Superheroes hit robots till they break.  It was passable.  B

Ex Machina (2015).  Humans talk at robots till they break.  It was great.  A+

Other stuff:

Sunshine (2007).  Watched as background for Ex Machina, as it was written by the same guy, Alex Garland.  Turns out it's The Core plus Alien, but without the fun of either, and atrociously directed by Danny Boyle.  It was terrible.  D+

Never Let Me Go (2010).  Also written by Garland.  It's The Island, if The Island were stupider and British.  It was even worse.  (In fairness, Garland also has Dredd and 28 Days Later to his name, as well as Ex Machina.) D

Star Wars  (1977).  Not viewed as part of Star Wars Day, which I was not aware of till later.  My girlfriend, who will in a scant three months embark upon her media studies Ph.D., has never seen The Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi.  Mind-boggling.  Anyway, Star Wars is still pretty perfect. A+

Also tons more of Community, which is still great, although by the end of season 3 Abed is maybe getting too out-there for the show's good.  I mean, the dude started at 11 and he just keeps turning up the crazy volume.  Pierce is still my favorite because he gets the most outre things to say for everyone else to react to.

Is anyone else really excited about Tomorrowland?  I feel like I must be the only one.  GF said it looked stupid.   (But see above.  She's also never seen Die Hard.)  Also looking forward--maybe even more forward--to Ant-Man.  I like it when people shrink.

I wouldn't call John Oliver "investigative journalism" like 60 Minutes or anything. Most of what he says is fairly widely known, he just puts it into a nice 5 minute package and dumbs it down so TV viewers understand it.. Not dissing it. Neil Postman in his 1980-something book Amusing Ourselves to Death predicted that news and entertainment were slowly meshing together.

Yeah I don't think Oliver actually has reporters sniffing things out. He just takes already existing material and makes jokes about it. He just happens to use current issues.

I'm sure you've been warned about season 4, but I'll warn you again.  Skip it if you can avoid being a completionist.  S5 also doesn't live up to the greatness that is S1-3, but is less of a drop off.  S6 is pretty close to S5 but sadder because more of the core cast is gone, although there are some nice additions.
