Just finished, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis

The spotlight is on Aquaman here. The art remains great, as does the fight scenes which are absolutely brutal. The action to dialogue ratio here is much more even than in Justice League War. This should make this a much better movie than the last one, however all the extra dialogue just highlights the fact that the League really is mostly made up of super jerks. Aquaman is a drunk trying to work through his grief by beating up bar patrons while Hal continues to be the reckless douche we all love to hate. Thankfully Batman and the Big Bad of this story are hard at work acting as audience surrogates and smacking him down. The magic trident that Aquaman's half brother wields is ridiculously OP.
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

In the Loop. Very amusing.
To sleep, perchance to dream. But in that sleep of death, what dreams may come?

I've watched the first episode of an American show called The Returned. I thought the synopsis sounded a little familiar....and....holy cow.
It is basically an American version of the French series Revanants. And when I say American version...they haven't just taken the basic plot as an inspiration here. They've wholesale remade it. It unfolds the same way and even many of the scenes play out exactly the same way in a very similar setting.

Now that I think about Hoosiers a little, isn't it subtly racist? I mean, they are an all-white school from an all-white midwestern town that defeats a more athletic integrated team in the finals.

It's based on a true story, in which an all white team from a tiny school in Indiana beat a big city team that Oscar Robertson played on.

I don't see how it's racist, subtly or otherwise.

I was being a bit flippant. I don't think it is racist.

Caught "I am Sam" on the telly - You never go full retard.

My mama always told me, Sean Penn's acting abilities are overrated.

He was good in The Thin Red Line.

Like a lot of actors, he can only play certain roles well.  Wander from the Tough Guy, and he kinda flops.

He was good in the 80s and 90s, imho, until people told him he was a good actor too often, and he started overacting in every film.

I thought he did great in the exceptionally quirky This Must Be The Place a couple years ago.

Besides, he's a much better director than he is an actor and is fucking Charlize Theron, probably very hard and very often.

celedhring

Haven't seen that one, I admit.

As for his work as a director, I like "The Pledge" a lot.

Check out "The Crossing Guard", another great film of his with Jack Nicholson and the always undervalued Davide Morse.

Lucy - Wasn't expecting much given the reviews, but ended up being worse than I expected. Besides how stupid the film is in many parts (the whole 'humans only use 10% of their brain' myth is one of my pet hates), the main issue is how terribly unrelatable and unlikeable Lucy becomes once she gains her powers. I understand she becomes aloof when she turns into an überfrau, but I have little interest in seeing a movie about such a character.

Is that the movie in which Scarlett Johansen makes people drop dead with her mind?
