Villeneuve is an interesting director; I liked "Prisoners" quite a lot. I'm willing to give this a chance. Blade Runner is one of my favorite films of all time, but I'll try not to expect too much.

Villeneuve is an interesting director, but boy was I not a fan of Prisoners and even less so of Enemy.

Gratz to your friend.  Non-supernatural (?) Deadgirl is probably a better Deadgirl (I never saw Deadgirl).

No supernatural elements. It's actually a rather taut thriller; it's played quite straight.

I shot a cameo, by the way, but it didn't make the final cut.

Duque de Bragança

Anybody seen Red Army? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3264102
It's a feature documentary about the Soviet ice hockey team through Vyacheslav Fetisov ;).
It's only screened in a couple of cinemas since Wednesday yet I'll have to watch it very quickly because it's not exactly mainstream around here.

Big Hero 6 was pretty cool, even though they kind of flubbed the ending.  I loved Baymax.

It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

I wish the standalone disc were available now.  It's already out as part of Universal's Spielberg collection, which to its credit includes Jurassic Park, ET, and Jaws, but also includes 1941, Always, Sugarland Express, and Jurassic Park: The Lost World, rounding out its $90+ "value."  It pointedly does not have Schindler's List, despite it being a Universal picture. <_<

Got it for 33 €  :smarty:

WWII background. Check.
Boring love story, check.
Boring triangle love story à la Twilight, check.
Clichés.  Tons of 'em.  Check.
Inexistant historical realism.  Check.
Racism. Check.
Über patriotism.  Check.
Machoism. Check.
Yet, the actors play was impressive, wich redeemed the whole movie, no doubt, and made it a classic.

Had this movie been made in the 2000s, people&critics would have called it for all the aforementionned points.  But since it's from 1942, it's one of the greatest movies in the history of cinema :)

Above all it's homosexual propaganda. "Man must have his mate"? WTF
Women want me. Men want to be with me.

On the plane I caught some of "Getting On" the U.S. remake of British show set in a Long Beach hospital. I haven't seen the British show but the humor/pacing seem odd for an American cast.
"I've never been quite sure what the point of a eunuch is, if truth be told. It seems to me they're only men with the useful bits cut off."
I drank because I wanted to drown my sorrows, but now the damned things have learned to swim.

I really loved the British version. But it's definitely got it's own style. This clip gives a rough idea:

Looking at a clip on YouTube it looks like the American one is basically exactly the same which in my view never ever works but is something I think keeps happening. I think doing an American version with very little relationship with the British (All in the Family, the Office) probably ends up with better results.

It's one I'd love to see, but hasn't come across anywhere accessible yet.

The UK or US one?

Sheilbh

The UK. Cucumber included a cameo by Hazel a character from Queer as Folk that broke my heart.

Never watched the US one. My impression is it's a bit more earnest about exploring 'issues' so I may give it a miss

Edit: Incidentally three episodes in and though it's aged a bit it's still solid. But you can definitely tell which actors will go on to shows like Game of Thrones, The Wire and Sons of Anarchy. And then the actor who'll go on to Coronation Street

Well shoot, if you put the right kind of computer screen shots together for two hours you'll have one of Jackson's Hobbit movies.

22 Jump Street. Pretty funny, not quite an "all-time classic" however.  :P
Gone Girl. Intense. Disturbing. Worth seeing.
