Über patriotism.  Check.

French patriotism, American production. That's not typical.

It is pro-Allies against the Axis.  I mean how disgustingly uber patriotic can you be?  The film needed a more nuanced view.

The US wasn't at war when the original play was written. I don't know how overtly pro-Allies American media were in 1941, but it doesn't seem that clear-cut to me. That said, the film was done just a few months after PH.

It was very clear-cut which side the American media was leaning on in 1941.  It's not like it was in 1914.

Depends on the part of the country but in general extremely pro-Allied.  WWII went a little differently than WWI.  Military spending was ratcheting up and we were backing the British full-bore by 1941.

I noticed that Corie Haim is now getting top billing on Lost Boys.  And his character is totally, irrevocably gay.  Marty was right.

Eddie Teach

He didn't get top billing before?

If they were gonna bump someone now, I'd figure it'd be Kiefer Southerland. He's had a career.

Admiral Yi

Pretty sure it has previously been Jason Patric.

Eddie Teach

Still is Patric on the IMDB page.

Yeah, when the movie first came out it was Jason Patric;  Kiefer Sutherland was merely "Hey, isn't that Donald Sutherland's son? He looks just like him" at that point.  The Coreys got second billing.

Corey Feldman on the Spanish DVD.

EDIT: realized they just list them in alphabetical order.

It's Corey Haim on the cable mini-blurb.

Eddie Teach

Cable blurbs are silly. For instance, the blurb for Z Nation lists Harold Perrineau first, though he died in the pilot.

Oh, shit, CDM reminded me in the OTT:

Duel is out on motherfucking blu-ray in May!  Regular sex with blowjobs and Duel in 1080p?  2015 is my fucking year of miracles, fellas.

Watching Duel on the big screen is even better.  :smarty:
Screened during a Spielberg retrospective at the Cinémathèque.
I'll bet. :)

I wish the standalone disc were available now.  It's already out as part of Universal's Spielberg collection, which to its credit includes Jurassic Park, ET, and Jaws, but also includes 1941, Always, Sugarland Express, and Jurassic Park: The Lost World, rounding out its $90+ "value."  It pointedly does not have Schindler's List, despite it being a Universal picture. <_<

Villeneuve is an interesting director; I liked "Prisoners" quite a lot. I'm willing to give this a chance. Blade Runner is one of my favorite films of all time, but I'll try not to expect too much.

Villeneuve is an interesting director, but boy was I not a fan of Prisoners and even less so of Enemy.

Gratz to your friend.  Non-supernatural (?) Deadgirl is probably a better Deadgirl (I never saw Deadgirl).

A friend of mine has got his debut film accepted at SXSW. This is the trailer. It's about necrophilia.

NSFW, of course.
Looks interesting. Well done to him.

It also reminded me of one of the more disturbing strands of Santa Evita.
