Banderas is the prettier one, the younger one, the poorer one.  He is the nurturing, mothering one.

How often is a sugar daddy a bottom?
As Marti says 50/50 probably. I'd never really thought of it, but in that film I wouldn't peg Banderas as the bottom - to the extent that's a permanent fixed category in a relationship which it rarely is.

Don't read your heteronormative and gendered sexual roles into gay relationships :P

QuoteI don't understand why a Canadian show would have to be Canada-free to sell internationally.
Yeah. See Top of the Lake, all Scandinavian and British drama, Spiral, Inspector Montalbano etc. Canadian shows may not be able to sell into the US, I think relatively few foreign shows manage it (though they mostly share a language so it's more plausible) but there's a big international market for other small countries selling shows to each other.

Hell Midsomer Murders is apparently huge in some parts of Eastern Europe

QuoteCritics can't determine a market if they are out of touch with consumers.  Maybe the problem is that Canadians as a whole have shitty taste.
But there is a market for those sort of shows - if they're good rather than just worthy - especially with Netflix and Amazon Prime.

QuoteStill very much enjoying 'Wolf Hall' and Damien Lewis's portrayal of Henry VIII is revealing itself perhaps brilliantly, I mean I think it'll be a brilliant performance once the full traits and motivations of his Henry are evident.
Agreed. I expected Rylance to be brilliant (and he is) but Lewis is a bit of a revelation.

Man you guys sure are touchy.

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

Nothing says touchy like the :P smiley.

I was also kidding.  Context: Marty just went on a rant about this a few pages back about the exact same Yi post.

Err, I don't think I went on a rant - I was just providing a thorough explanation.

Independence Day is one of the best blockbusters of all time.

Any one who says different should be cast into the pit!
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

So it's rarely fixed yet 50/50.  :hmm:

That movie has Tim written all over it. How are you just realizing that?
To sleep, perchance to dream. But in that sleep of death, what dreams may come?

I would say it's more of a coin toss - so in practice can go 50/50 either way.

As in it's as Marti says a coin toss whether you're a 'top' or a 'bottom'. But they're not fixed categories and in a relationship it may all switch up and it's more changeable. If you're looking for a one night stand you're likely to be a top or a bottom (on Grindr versatile = bottom), but it's unlikely to be that fixed in a relationship.

I got versatile=bottom from the one episode of that funeral home show I watched.

celedhring

Banderas usually played bottom in his gay Almodóvar films. The kind of passive-aggressive bottom that actually dominates the relationship, though.

Red Scorpion at the Cinémathèque (B-movie night with another run by the mill italian rip-off of Dirty Dozen).
One of Dolph's best performances. There's even some humour!  They don't make anti-commie B-movies like that anymore. Great practical effects, Tom Savini even shows his expertise, and João Fernandes, DP of Director Joseph Zito (Missing in Action and Invasion USA) shoots the movie better than it deserved to be, by making the most of the troubled shooting thanks to the great Namibian vistas for instance.
Savimbi tribute inside. Finest Abramoff lobbying ever.

It is a fun B-movie, but I have a really hard time overlooking the badly dressed-up Sea King they used as an Mi-24.
