Since Avatar was mentioned - I only learned today that this is the same actor.

I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Wes Anderson has a new film coming out, The French Dispatch, which seems peak Wes Anderson.

Buttt..... Soundtracking it is...Jarvis Cocker channeling the whole 60s French pop vibes of that brief period when the country was cool :w00t:

A Knight's Tale.

Watched it in the theater 20 years ago, but it's still a lot of fun. Yes, it's cheesy. Yes, it's predictable and formulaic. But the cast's chemistry (esp. Heath Ledger, Alan Tudyk, Paul Bettany and Rufus Sewell) make it fun, and the jousting is quite good. I had a medieval literature professor who specifically pointed out the movie as a good example of what to imagine the jousting in medieval stories to look like. :D

Yep, fun movie. I still enjoy it even though I've seen it many times.  :)

(genuine question: what happened to Rick Moranis).

He quit acting when his wife died in order to raise his kids.  He's had a couple roles in recent years.

When I was in my early twenties, people always said I looked like a young Rick Moranis.
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Professor Marston and the Wonder Women. Ok, in spite of being a biopic.
No onscreen lesbian sex.
It's a terrific film and as you say it's one that is basically just elevated so much by the cast having a lot of fun.

Yes. Which initially made me really worried because it is probably my Desert Island film - I love West Side Story.

But...It's Spielberg and the trailer looked good. On the other hand - Ansel Elgort

I don't know I have very mixed feelings about it.

I seem to recall a story that the main cast were sent out drinking multiple times paid for by the director to build their chemistry. Drinking nights with Tudyk, Bettany and Ledger sound awesome, though. :D

Perfect film for telling the difference between people who are just pedantic dickheads and those who really get history.

The Larch

I watched The Green Knight recently. It is definitely a very particular and special film, super artsy with symbolism up the wazoo, and extremely atmospheric with some really gorgeous cinematography. Some sections at the beginning and middle of the film felt like they didn't advance things much, there's very little dialogue throughout the film, and half of it feels that it is being whispered rather than spoken. The last half hour of the film or so might have only 2 or 3 sentences spoken, 5 tops. Definitely the kind of film that you need to be in the proper frame of mind to watch to truly enjoy it.

Sheilbh

Is that frame of mind stoned?
