The Suicide Squad: really dumb and really fun (some scenes work better than others). It feels like Troma movie with a 200 million budget.

Anyone ever get into watching a show you know is awful but its awfulness is in itself a point of enjoyment?
I'm there at the moment with a anime named Wise Mans Grandchild. Its just so...cliche and shit. Even the art is generic and terrible. But there's comedy in guessing what obvious thing will happen next (sometimes its different!). Plus it requires zero brain power.

I also watched Tomorrow War. Its not so bad its good. Its just bad. The party with the world cup final on in the background should have been a warning.

I've finished season 1 of Kim's Convenience. I like wholesome comedy shows, but this might be a bit too saccharine even for me. I need a break after this. Also, Shannon still sounds WAY too much like an ex-coworker.
I like it. Its a nice simple light show where a lot of the jokes work.
I guess the thing is its a light comedy but made in the style of a darker comedy drama- no laugh track, ridiculous setups better masked and kept to a minimum, etc....

Watched the first two episodes of Atlanta. Really like it, but maybe a bit too heavy for me at the moment. So I've switched to Bob's Burgers. I liked the first two episodes, though it's not really blowing me away so far. Will keep watching for now, though.
Atlanta is OK. Not as great as it is credited. Also needs subtitles.
Bobs is very good though much like Archer its easy to burn out on it.

Only knew him from QI, but I always liked his outings. RIP. :(

I feel like both are realistic in what they portray: ... a WoW-type game development studio.

:x
There's a lot of boozing and butt grabbing, I guess? ;)

F. Murray Abrahams character would probably be cancelled irl. :p

Far too young.  RIP to a clever humorist the likes of which are too rare as it is.

I had been surprised to find Gunn directed Troma films.

I've been curious about The White Lotus for a bit, do you recommend it?

I had good things to say about it when it started, but as the episodes wore on it became very so-so. In fact the penultimate episode was a chore to finish.

IIRC he more wrote for them than directed. He co-wrote the wonderful Tromeo & Juliet with Loyd Kaufman, e.g.

I find it funny how some of these niche directors have ended up with mainstream successes. Sam Raimi, after Evil Dead made the Tobey Maquire Spiderman movies. James Gunn after working for Troma and making the porn parody series PG Porn (all episodes safe for work, check out High Poon if you can - never fails to make me laugh) to doing big budget movies for Marvel and DC. And of course there's Peter Jackson who went from making Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles, and Braindead (aka Dead Alive) to doing Lord of the Rings.

It can take a ridiculous style to make ridiculous movies that are entertaining for more than Bad Movie Nights.

And so COLORFUL, unlike the usual DC schlock.
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

The Fast and the Furious presents: Hobbs&Shaw.

fun and silly action movie.  Would have been better without the F&F title though.  Ultimately, outside of the two secondary characters, it has nothing to do with the movie series.

Lovely tribute by Harry Hill:
https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2021/aug/18/harry-hill-on-sean-lock-comedians-comedian-took-us-by-surprise
QuoteAt his best, Sean reminded us all what we loved about a great gag and why we got into comedy in the first place. That's why he was so often called "the comedian's comedian". He took his illness in typically dry style. I heard he was in a hospice for a bit of a rest. I called him up. "Wow!" I said. "A hospice, what's that like?" "It's OK," he said "... and the sex is amazing."

People are tempted to pigeonhole him as dark or surreal but he was more than that. He had a playful side; a wide-eyed wonder at the world.
