Started watching season 5 of DS9. Odo is now a solid, which is an interesting turn for his character but also a way to save on SFX, I presume. The list of recommended episodes on mashable grows longer each season, which is testament how the show steadily improves throughout.

Just watched the episode of Bashir and Jake at a field hospital and I see that "let's give Jake life-scarring trauma" is another DS9 tradition. The season 4 episode where he sacrifices his adult life in an obsessive search to bring his father back after Sisko becomes "lost in time" was weird and good.

Next up: Tribbles and Tribble-ations!

It's weird to think but the simpsons has been going so long that had they aged Bart would be homers age now... Older even.

Yup.  In the episode I Married Marge it shows Marge getting pregnant with Bart in 1980, which would make him 42 by now.  (I just watched this one a few days ago)

Wait a second, my mother was pregnant with me in 1980 and I'm only 39.  Fuck, I'm actually three years older.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Darryl Strawberry used his stint in the Northern League to go back to the majors for a bit, although that didn't take either.

He did manage to play very well in a platoon role for the 98 Yankees, which hold the record for most wins by a team that won the World Series.
He had lots of problems after that but one of those problems was cancer.
Still - probably the best example of a surefire HoF player who tanked a career through drug addiction.

Halfway through season 5. Some notes.

- Odo being a solid didn't last long.
- Michael Eddington is a slimy SOB.
- I still don't know how Sisko has avoided a court-martial all series long, let alone keep his commission, given all the insubordination/straight criminal stuff he pulls off

Army of the dead - finally got to the finish. Not a good film. So many half arsed ideas just thrown at the wall and none stick. I guess a 14 year old might like it.

DS9 Season 5, ep 21 "Soldiers of the Empire"

Worf and Jadzia go on a mission aboard a disgraced klingon ship under the command of Martok, who's still shaken by his two years of imprisonment by the Dominion. As I've said, I love episodes centered around klingons being klingon-y (or in this case, not being klingon-y). The writers manage to make all the crewmen quietly memorable with just a few lines, and the atmosphere aboard the ship is great.

I've checked Memory Alpha and I see that the Rotarran will appear in several further episodes. This pleases me.

Josquius

The klingon episodes were fun and all. But I remember that one really drove home how nonsensical the klingon were. How on earth can they be a major space faring power when their ships are like that?

Well, the Rotarran is supposed to be a particularly dysfunctional ship.

Anyway, Trek has a big "age of sail stories moved to space" component to it that I love. The klingon ship is essentially patterned after a pirate ship. It doesn't make sense when you try to extrapolate it to an universe level, but I just roll with the punches. Sometimes fun stories are just fun stories.

Martok is one of the coolest characters on a show full of cool characters.

The new trailer for The Foundation looks to be more psychohysteria than pyschohistory... Not sold.

The original didn't have much actual history either. Unless you know something we don't.

1998...a year that signaled impending doom for the Baltimore Orioles. There would never be a pennant or World Series for the 1990s Orioles. All our hopes and dreams were evidently dead and nothing but pain awaited us.

Good times.

But you are misremembering. Strawberry played for the 1999 Yankees.

Harlots. A few episodes in. Could use some more domestic discipline.

 underappreciated comment.

Also Celed has caught up to where we are with our DS9 binge so I have to stop reading the thread for a while.
