[The Minsky Moment]

Darryl Strawberry used his stint in the Northern League to go back to the majors for a bit, although that didn't take either.

He did manage to play very well in a platoon role for the 98 Yankees, which hold the record for most wins by a team that won the World Series.
He had lots of problems after that but one of those problems was cancer.
Still - probably the best example of a surefire HoF player who tanked a career through drug addiction.

- Odo being a solid didn't last long.
- Michael Eddington is a slimy SOB.
- I still don't know how Sisko has avoided a court-martial all series long, let alone keep his commission, given all the insubordination/straight criminal stuff he pulls off

Army of the dead - finally got to the finish. Not a good film. So many half arsed ideas just thrown at the wall and none stick. I guess a 14 year old might like it.

DS9 Season 5, ep 21 "Soldiers of the Empire"

Worf and Jadzia go on a mission aboard a disgraced klingon ship under the command of Martok, who's still shaken by his two years of imprisonment by the Dominion. As I've said, I love episodes centered around klingons being klingon-y (or in this case, not being klingon-y). The writers manage to make all the crewmen quietly memorable with just a few lines, and the atmosphere aboard the ship is great.

I've checked Memory Alpha and I see that the Rotarran will appear in several further episodes. This pleases me.

Well, the Rotarran is supposed to be a particularly dysfunctional ship.

Anyway, Trek has a big "age of sail stories moved to space" component to it that I love. The klingon ship is essentially patterned after a pirate ship. It doesn't make sense when you try to extrapolate it to an universe level, but I just roll with the punches. Sometimes fun stories are just fun stories.

1998...a year that signaled impending doom for the Baltimore Orioles. There would never be a pennant or World Series for the 1990s Orioles. All our hopes and dreams were evidently dead and nothing but pain awaited us.

But you are misremembering. Strawberry played for the 1999 Yankees.

TNG, the episode of... season 1 or 2, I think (Riker did not have a beard), where Riker goes on an officer exchange aboard a Klingon Bird of Prey and Worf drills him through what he should expect, and what is expected of him, specifically the part where he has to answer to a challenge from a junior officer or challenge a superior one, and Worf goes in many detail about challenge to the death, execution for cowardice or insubordination, etc, so Riker asks: "how can a ship function that way?" to which he simply answers: "It has so far".

So, there you go, your explanation.
