For what I think is 4 years, the BBC Radio 4 podcasts I listen to have warned of Ads. This week, for the first time, I got one!

Really, what do they consider of?

The one's I download typically have the annoying 10 "BBC Sounds" trailer on the front and often on the end a 30-60 sec promotion for another bbc radio series.

Is that what you mean by Ads or is it actual product/service adverts from 3rd parties>

Never got a promotion for a different series in a podcast.

It went - Ad Warning - Actual Ad! - BBC Sound - Episode - Ad again. Up until now it was Ad Warning - BBC Sound - Episode.

The ad was for Canadian Auto Insurance. I think they just never had a Canadian advertiser before.

Thanks GF for the thorough reply.

Wow the Beed forcing adverts on fellow commonweath citizens.  :hmm:

Yeah, the In Our Time podcast always starts out with a warning that "this podcast is supported by advertising outside the Uk" and then there is never an ad.

That's the Beeb I know and love, pulling its' punches.  :bowler:

I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

She doesn't look very red headed :hmm:

But they can probably dye her hair or something :P

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

Rewatching Superbad.  A sweet comedy about coming of age, friendship, raging adolescent horniness, and social bumbling.

The PC critique is not warranted IMO.

Finished F is For Family on Netflix. (The final season, #5, will come out in June.)

Produced by Bill Burr who also voices the main character. Set in the 1970s, with each season covering, err, a season (season 1 is Winter 1973, season 2 is Spring 1974 etc.).

It captures the 70s drama spirit in that the family's problems never seem to get any better, I guess? I enjoyed it but tonally it's weird. It has some of the family problems messages early Simpsons used to have, but it also occasional dips into the cartoonishly gross and violent of Family Guy or South Park. I didn't expect this many swinging ball sacks, penis tips, etc. It also pokes fun at life in the 70s, obviosuly. And some of the storylines are pretty messed up.

I enjoyed it a fair bit, but I'm struggling to explain why. I expect it won't be for everyone. I do look forward to the conclusion, though.

EDIT: I feel its tone is similar for me to the movie Adam's Apples, in that it handles serious subjects and has its characters go through some messed up stuff but doing it with a dose of dark humor that sometimes leaves me wondering why I'm even laughing at this.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Ep. 1 of Master of None. A brown skinned guy hangs out with two little white kids all day, and nobody calls the cops? Yeah, right!  :P

I've been watching The Russian Five (documentary about the Detroit Red Wing's five Russian players.)  Thus far the highlight (other than the Darren McCarty / Claude Lemieux fight pictured here:

)

is seeing vintage Don Cherry talk about how much he hates Russians.  I haven't found the clip yet, as Googling "Don Cherry Hates Russians" yields an awful lot of unique videos, but this one is my favorite thus far: Russians are NOTHING.
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

I miss Don Cherry. :(

I mean he's not dead or anything.  He even was a weekly podcast.  But without him being out there watching games every week it's just a podcast of an old man reminiscing about the good ole days.

To be fair he hated a lot of nationalities. I think he hated the Swedes most of all.

He really only liked "good Canadian boys" (though he was pretty iffy on the frenchies).

Why, when rhe Russians play the game, would the Swedes be the most hated?

Too soft.  According to Don Cherry.

Because if there's one thing we need right now, it is nationalistic xenophobes who are granted air time to promote the use of violence.

Not xenophobes.  Just the one.  And the only violence he promoted was at the hockey rink.

Plus he shopped for his suit fabric at drapery stores.
