First episode of Jupiter's Legacy was quite meh. I will watch 1-2 more but seemed a bit too self-important. And it's not like we don't have a 10000000000 superhero things already.

Also, I was secretly hoping it was a sequel to Jupiter Ascending  :(

Rocketman was alright. Despite the hints towards being a musical at times and my being rather Meh on Elton john.
No mention of Watford in the whole thing <_<

I loved Rocketman I think because it is far more of a musical than a lot of recent musician biopics. And I really enjoyed Stephen Graham's turn as Dick James.

But I also quite like Elton John - though I'm not a big fan of his music. He's the only celebrity where I've read the autobiography because it's everything you want and expect it to be: indiscreet, catty and often preposterous. I find it hard to dislike a man witha $50k annual flower budget

Elton John used to be cool then he turned into Liberace.

He was always Liberace :P

Edit: Another excellent biopic!

Rocketman also gave us this great meme template.  :P

The problem with Rocketman is that it's the same as any other of those music biopics. Humble guy with lots of talent is successful despite all odss, then does drugs/drinks/gets a divorce, ultimately sees the error of his ways, becomes successful again. And the film is bookended by some moment in his life that highlights his artistic and human resurrection.

I know that Elton John's life arc is exactly that, which makes it slightly weird.  :P

My favorite music movie remains Velvet Goldmine
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Yeah - the slight difference is I think it actually deals with him being gay which lots of these films don't. Unlike with Bohemian Rhapsody, Elton John has said that part of the reason he wanted to be a producer was to avoid the gay or the debauchery being downplayed (which prevented the film from being released in Russia) - I think the remaining Queen members sort of did. I also think the relationship with Bernie Taupin running through it is really striking. He isn't redeemed by a romantic partner but by a platonic friendship and a creative partnership. Which I think is true - I think Taupin's said it's a non-sexual love affair - but it's odd to see that foregrounded as a really important relationship in a movie, especially between a gay and straight man.

But I think it also leans more into the musical element. The songs aren't just portrayed as him recording or performing - other characters sing and they are generally really big old school musical set pieces with lots of dancers. Again I think of the contrast with Bohemian Rhapsody which I hated

Yes! Which is so good because they couldn't get any rights to the actual songs or story

The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Die Hard is on tv, so of course I put it on as a great monday evening film, and the amount of stuff before the action begins that incredibly date the movie to the late 80s is quite astonishing. McLane carrying his gun in the plane, McLane smoking in the car, a telephone in the car as an amazing luxury, the incredible new technology of touchscreens, raving about Kareem Abdul Jabbar as an active player, it really has it all, and that's exclusing many other 80s tropes.
