I think Chinese aversion to T&A might hold them back.

One that did well, certainly critically, whilst not being an art house film, was 'Mongol' though I think that was some odd Chinese-Russian-European co-production.

Why do some good movies not show up on cable rotation?  I'm thinking of Teh Big Short.

I'm guessing has to do with it being on Netflix.

It did its tour on HBO back in 2016, IIRC.

Yes, I wrote a review back in August:

Wind River (2017)

Third in Taylor Sheridan trilogy about the modern American frontier (along with Sicario and Hell or High Water); this is a thriller about a rape and murder on the Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming.  The film might have worked better they had gone the "In the Heat of the Night" route and made one of the leads a native (especially since the mystery's resolution isn't all that interesting.)  Instead it's more along the lines of a Jack London story where the land itself is a character.

I didn't know The Scarlet Witch was Mary-Kate and Ashley's kid sister.

If you liked "Sicario" and "Hell or High Water" you'll probably like "Wind River" as well.
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

Chinese films have to deal with censorship.  A lot of content, like extra-marital romance, the presence of aliens, and obviously anything that carries the wrong political message, is frowned upon.

The Chinese market is huge.  There is often no need to worry about the non-Chinese market.  Films are made for the Chinese audience only.  So you don't hear about them very often.

There is no reliable way to measure film success or failure.  It is widely believed that the box office figures are bogus.

I actually watched Scarface for the first time.
I can see how it is so influential. However I guess 2 decades of watching films taking from it has lessened the film itself.
I like how they underline that the main guy is an absolute arse hole right before they finally get rid of him.
The false ending part way through is interesting.
Pretty hard to understand what a lot of people are saying though
Watch the original.  It is interesting how they adapted and updated it.  At least to me it is.

The original does suffer from some issues of early sound pictures (but it did have a much better director.)  The thing that I found interesting about the original is what they did to appease the censors.  Prior to the Production Code each individual state, and sometimes cities, had their own censorship board.  So the movie makers had to err on the side of caution when making pictures.  This is why they have that scene in the middle of the film where the police detective, reporter and law abiding Italian immigrants go on about how bad gangsters are.  The idea was that if they didn't put this in children would get the wrong idea and turn to a life of crime.  On the other hand all the incest overtones (they are much more pronounced in the original) didn't seem to bother anyone.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

I saw it too (sorry, missed 11's question). It's decent, not as good as Sicario or Hell or High Water though. It doesn't have the frantic intensity of those two films, but it probably wouldn't fit the story. It's a hearthland-themed murder mystery that plays more as a character piece and "man engulfed by nature" thing than the mystery itself.

Wind River is a lot bleaker than Hell or High Water.
