My Argie ex almost got me hooked to to MasterChef. We would sit on the couch and watch like 2-3 eps in a row. Those cooking shows are weirdly mesmerizing.

Not the same thing, but a friend of a friend competed in Forged in Fire, and I had a similar experience.

For those uninitiated, it involves amateur and professional smiths forging various blades on the spot using materials provided.  The two finalists are then given the project of creating an exotic historical sword (e.g. a kris or claymore), the winner is picked after conducting various tests like slicing through gelatinous dummies, cutting carcasses, and shooting bullets at the blade.
