I also hope the next Terminator movie is done well and makes money, as I like that series and have liked all the films so far.
I liked both of the Terminator movies* as well, but think rebooting them is a waste of time.

*There have only been two, just as there have only been two Alien movies and one Matrix Movie

My favorites of those type movies are Predators series and Terminator. Another Predator spin off is in the works along with the Terminator movie. I think they have to find some way to make the additional movies feel fresh, else yeah, they risk making them sub par.

Star Trek seems to do well with the new movies, as does Star Wars but not all of the movies are received well. Still favorite series for me and I'm glad the studios continue with the movies.

Looking more at the Terminator "reboot", it really seems more of a post-T2 rollback:

QuoteThe production, an overhaul of the convoluted time-hopping sci-fi series, will reunite stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton in their original roles.
QuoteTerminator 2019, yet to announce its official title or plot details, is expected to continue on from T2.

Arnold and Linda Hamilton, interesting to see how it comes out with them two, older now as the first ones came out in the 1980s. The last ones with an older Arnold, he seemed to do pretty well in them.

Tina Fey made a movie about white female reporters in Afghanistan in 2016 that's smart and funny and this flick never made the cable rotation. Maybe they poached all the funny scenes for the trailer.  I hope not.

I saw that movie, yes, it was pretty good.

Savonarola

The Thing from Another World (1951)

A lot of these 50s monster movies have roughly the same setup; there's the macho hombre, the older (male) scientist, and the chick.  The chick is somehow a daughter figure to the scientist (she's literally his daughter in "20 Million Miles to Earth" and "Them", but his secretary in "Fiend without a Face"); initially she doesn't like the macho hombre, or the macho hombre doesn't like her, but then the monster shows up and they fall in love.

This film follows that formula; but uses it to much better effect.  The dialog is much snappier than in almost any other picture from the era; coming as fast and as furious as in any screwball comedy.  The scientist and the macho hombre are rivals in this film, with competing (and compelling) points of view.  The monster scenes do a great job building up tension; as the hapless crew are trapped in a polar research station as he closes in on them.  (And, this being a Howard Hawks production, the chick is sexier, brighter and braver than any of her counterparts.)

The film is low budget; they couldn't even afford to do close up shots of the monster; (but, just like "Jaws" that seems to work to the film's advantage.)  To date this is my favorite 50s era monster film; I think it's even better than the original Godzilla.
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

It's a decent film but definitely not a comedy. The trailer is pretty misleading.

What kind of film is it then?  Female mid life crisis movie?  Earnest plea for world peace?

I missed the second. Can I watch the third and still follow what's going on?

It's a biopic, based on the biography of a journalist sent to Afghanistan. Most of the jokes are in the trailer, really.

Polar 2019

I hope this is the worse of Mads Mikkelsen's 2019 Cold Duology, but 'Arctic' doesn't stream on Netflix. It's not good nor is it terrible, but kinda on the lower end of "it's fine" which makes it one of the better Netflix movies made.

I saw "Girl in the Spider's Web". It was ok but I liked the first one best. I liked the books too.

Netflix' top recommendation for me is Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid. I don't know what I have watched to deserve that. :(

Watched the Mr Rogers documentary "Won't You Be My Neighbor." Lovely little doc.

It had a short segment showing a Fox News host blaming him for entitled millennials. Are there people out there who really believe that shit?

Watching the American Crime Story Season 2 bit on the crazy dude who killed Versace. Interesting.
