Westworld has really captured me. I don't know if I think it's great but it's really intriguing at least, much depends on how they tie the ends together in the coming episodes.

I love the philosophy behind it.

That is much, much, MUCH better television.

I enjoyed that show

Designated Survivor: yay or nay?

Just yesterday I watched the first two episodes and thought they were quite well done and fast paced. We'll set where it goes, though, now that it's all set up

Yeah, one of those not to watch too often, maybe once a decade.  :)

Watched the Netlix series on Commodus.  It is an interesting mix of the HBO series Rome (complete with nudity so Josephus will approve) and narration with interview clips with historians like Anthony Everitt.

:) :)

Is it any good? I saw it pop on my Netflix recommendations list, but I wondered if it's decent of just some History Channel-level dross.

A bit of both, but they have Everitt on every once in a while which is worth it.

The new Disney film, Moana, is excellent.  Best thing Ron Clements and John Musker have done since Aladdin.

Thanks, I guess it won't hurt to watch the first ep and see. I'm a sucker for Roman history stuff anyway.

Watched the first 2 eps of The Expanse. Liking it so far.

I'm looking forward to diving into that new Commodus series when I get a chance.  I've always had an interest in historical villains.  I once put together a whole theory of Commodus actually being a decent Emperor in his goals and how he was drawing on Augustus as an inspiration for his leadership as displayed in his statuary pieces and works.  The idea was that he was trying to save the Empire by making it less Rome and Italy -centric and trying to increase the participation and importance of the rest of the Empire.  This extended to the renaming of Rome and the broadening of the sense of Empire to all.  The traditionalists in the Senate and the major land owners who backed them had a lot to lose if they were no longer the sole elites and power was spread more equally throughout the Empire, so they conspired to eliminate him and blacken his name on the historical record to explain away their actions and the "evil" that Commodus was and represented.
"Everything that brought you here -- all the things that made you a prisoner of past sins -- they are gone. Forever and for good. So let the past go... and live."

"Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did."

I've been watching Mars on the National Geographic channel. Good show so far. It mixes the fictional story in with documentary info with scientists and others like Elon Musk who has his company working towards a manned trip to Mars. Good stuff.

Apparently in Italy they changed the name of the film because Moana is a famous Italian porn star. I've heard.
