"Deflector field" = shields.  "Deflector dish" = Star Trek giant equivalent of a sonic screwdriver.  Most of the stat affects like shield drain are done with the deflector dish.

I can create a PvP "enemy" char now. Currently watching the Gorn episode of TOS, so that would be tempting. The other races look nice, too, but I think I'll go with the gamey liberated Borg Klingon.
