How the Romulan gameplay look folks?

I logged in precisely long enough to create a Romulan toon, but that was all the time I had.  Probably more tonight.

Didn't you see me mention I didn't have much opportunity to play?  Mom was in town last night.  I DLed the update, created a Romulan Liberated Borg, and that was that.

I have to admit that the "jumping to the front of the queue as a gold/LTS" was somewhat satisfying.

It's going alright, my fleet is ballooning with all the people looking for romulan inclined fleets.
as with most mmo's they are having teething issues with expansions, the game is about to come down for third time in last 29 hours. (last two were both 90mins or so each) while trying to fix bugs. but been fun.

One thing I tend to find kind of dissapointing about STO is that the ships all kind of feel the same. Everyone can use every weapon, so what is the real difference? My Romuland can use photons torpedoes, and disruptors, or phasers, and so can my Klingon and Feds. There isn't really any flavour between each race when it comes to their ships and how they are used. They just look different.

And it raises the question of "What is the optimum weapon?" Why ever use phasers, if disruptors are better? Why use cannons if beams are better? Or vice versa of course. In fact, it seems to me like the "best" weapon to use on my ship is whatever I happen to have that will fit and is the highest quality for my level. I've been using plasma torps on my Romulan, just because I insist on doing so, but I suspect I would be better off just loading up with all Cannons or something like that.

Cryptic's done a pretty decent job of balancing the weapons so there is no "uber gun."  I'd strongly advise checking out building tips from the PvP players, since they've done the most number crunching on how to use what weapons.  Phasers have a bonus to the rate of disabling enemy systems, Plasma has a weak initial hit with a huge DOT bonus, etc.

As far as the types of weapons, I do agree there's more incentive to use cannons, but mostly at lower tiers; higher-tier non-escort ships tend to have such low turn rates that cannons' narrow firing arcs become a real problem.

Have to log back in to see what the power drain situation looks like: I know at one point they jacked it up to see noticeable damage to shields and discourage constant firing, but I think they lowered the weapon drain again after player complaints.

Ive definitely noticed that about the cannons...I spend the entire fight trying to turn without much success.

If in slow turning hog, try putting turrets in aft slots as they have 360 degree view so will at least have some type of dmg being done on target.
Use RCS engineering consoles to increase turn rate if affordable.
And if playing romulan if no torpedo currently coming towards you, feel free to cloak as they will buff your turn rate and feel free to use evasive maneuvers skill when ever need to.

How do I get in? I asked and you were all "Sure!" but no invite sent. It hurt me, like you were just trying to make me feel bad.

When you first asked, they told me to send you to website which i linked....

Now there has been so many people interested in fleet can skip that process when you are on...

I don't know that I agree.

Romulan / Klingon ships have cloaks, for starters, while Fed ships don't.  I mean I guess one cruiser flies pretty much the same as another, but they certainly have different looks, different console slots, different bridge officer layouts.

As Banana said, all the weapon types are fairly balanced, so yes - the best weapon is probably the highest tier weapon you have.  There are subtle differences between phasers, disruptors and the like (and various skills can magnify those differences) but for levelling up just use whatever you have lieing around.  Which is also kind of nice - on my main I'm still running with "classic" blue phasers gained from running some FEs (and from a purchase or two).  Sure, I could probably find something that is slightly better, but then my phasers wouldn't be blue!

Cannons / beams / turrets - now there's a big difference.  The differences in firing arc, and damage dealt, are huge.  Personally I've been running with cruisers and like to have the fairly wide arc of beams.

Ridiculously expensive.  You'd be stupid to buy it.
