I mean aim high. But God it'll be disappointing when we end up with Lampard

So... You know how people were saying they hope Spain win because England fans are scummy?

Now that's being a bad winner. Really scummy.

Now that's being a bad winner. Really scummy.

I mean - it's not exactly classy.

But it's pretty much par for the course for soccer, isn't it?

I'm pretty sure if England won there'd be references to the Spanish Armada...

The tabloids yes.
The team unlikely.
Also a pretty straight forward battle centuries ago is a bit of a different thing to threatening the self determination of a modern territory.

QuoteWesley Fofana has hit out at "uninhibited racism" and the French Football Federation has said it will file a legal complaint alleging "racially offensive and discriminatory remarks" were made by Argentina players following their Copa América victory against Colombia on Sunday night.

The complaints follow footage that was posted by the Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández on his Instagram account, which appeared to show him and his teammates involved in chants that included racist and homophobic slurs about members of the France team as they celebrated their 1-0 win in the final on Sunday.

If you're gonna make racist chants at least have the decency to make it about the team you beat, not an innocent third party :contract: :P

 :secret:

Precisely! It's a chant made after Argentina-France in 2022. :contract:

They mixed up Cameroon and Algeria/Nigeria (?!) as well.

I see I'm not the only Dane who developed a strong anti-England sentiment during the previous European Cup.

Denmark... Who are they again? :p

Why is this?
Checking up it seems England beat Denmark in the semis though no obvious controversy and the fan/organisational ridiculousness was in the final.

A country that's won the Euro more times than England

Danish media saw reporting of English fans spitting on and harassing Danish supporters - including children. It appeared quite widespread, and left a really bad taste. The level of behaviour may not be egregious by English standards, but it is for Denmark which is normally more in the "good vibes and partying" side of fan culture for international matches.

It was perhaps more impactful because Danes are generally quite fond of England and the English and sometimes imagine it's reciprocated.

There was also a perception of home-team referee favouritism at critical points swinging the match in England's favour, though honestly I forget the details so by itself it's probably insignificant...

But I remember very clearly watching the game and following the media coverage afterwards, and England going from a team I generally felt positive towards to my #1 disliked European team.

Like, I'd like to like England and if grown men want to indulge in a bit of hooliganism by mutual consent, whatever... but harassing children crossed the line for me. Especially after winning.

I don't like them either and I hate that fucking stupid song/chant There is far too much bad behaviour and I'm usually indifferent to slightly pleased when they exit a competition. Of course I don't find football to be a very interesting sport so the poor behaviour of the fans looms larger.

So quick to forget - it's even more recent than Al-Andalus or the Fall of Constantinople! :P
