The election lawsuits that were also recently dismissed are a different story.  Those were dismissed as moot in light of the election certification and the admission that they would not have affected the outcome of the election.

Are you saying that as part of these cases the plaintiffs conceded that Trump's claims of a landslide were bullshit?

I wonder what details the general public gets wrong about what you have specialized knowledge about that just makes you shake your head.   :P

The distinction between denying a stay application and making an substantive ruling is important for a number of reasons.  But you can get by just knowing the subpoena is still in force.

It's not that big a deal - the end result is similar.

There is a why to it that matters though - Trump already lost the argument of special Presidential protection from subpoenas - there was a decision on that.  What was left was a garden variety overbreadth objection.  It is no different from subpoena objections that get made thousands of times a week across the country.  There is no way the Supreme Court would get involved in such a dispute.

The election lawsuits that were also recently dismissed are a different story.  Those were dismissed as moot in light of the election certification and the admission that they would not have affected the outcome of the election.  However, one of them -- the Pennsylvania lawsuit - raised constitutional issues that although IMO lacked merit, were the sort of issues that the Court might consider.  3 justices voted to grant review on that one despite the apparent mootness.  That's fine and I personally think it might have been a good idea to resolve it on the merits. However, one of those justices issued an opinion dissenting from the order to refuse consideration - not that common in itself - that also raised a lot of Trumpy crap talking points about alleged unreliability of mail-in ballots.  That was not fine at all and unfortunately will feed the conspiratorial narrative that the stauchly right wing Supreme Court somehow had it in for Trump.

Yeah, the end result is similar - which is why I said he can get by just knowing the subpoena is still in force  ;)

The fact that you have some Supreme Court justices who are playing outside the rules/norms of judicial restraint, is a different and troubling issue.

There was never any allegation that happened in the filed cases.  There was always a complete disconnect between what was being alleged in the lawsuits and what was being said in press conferences.  At the same time Rudy was screaming fraud to the cameras, he went into federal district court and told the judge they were NOT claiming fraud (which would have required them to make a much more detailed factual showing to avoid immediate dismissal).  That is why some people have raised the issue of bar discipline for him.

Kavanaugh is a jerk, not an idiot.

but Thomas is Thomas and always will be.

Explains why Thomas has become a darling of the right in the US.

Technically I don't think the Court ruled at all - they just denied an application to stay the lower court order upholding the subpoena.

I think I would be happy if Trump released one of those every week or so, he could even take petitions so we can get him to roast, I don't know, Justin Bieber or Nicholas Cage.

Karl Rove was not qualified for 5G?  What the hell does any of this mean?
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Dude.  He doesn't deserve the high speeds and reliable service from Verizon's 5G wireless offerings.

I do love how Trump attacks Mitch McConnell for being more willing to fight Trump than Pelosi et al.  All in a letter that spends 100% of it's time attacking fellow Republicans.
