This is what I am talking about. Do billionaires have way too much unaccountable political power? Yes.

But one of them, among dozens, supposedly has the entire world on his payroll. Yeah ok. The protocols of the elders of Soros.

Yeah and I find the presence of anti-semitism in US politics really extraordinary. You know we've got a rich Jew stealing the world from the Volk here, I think there's a degree of coding around the attacks on "depraved Hollywood" and some of the attacks on "the Media". But it just seems to be accepted that this is part of the political language now and it's only anti-semitic if it's somehow anti-Israel or anti-Zionist. There are definitely people where their anti-semitism comes from anti-Zionism and views on Israel, but that's not always the case and doesn't seem to be the most common or most threatening type of anti-semitism in the US.

Obviously I'm in the UK and on the left which has its own very severe issues with anti-semitism, but in part because it has that there is in the media and social media I look at an awareness and calling out of these anti-semitic tropes by Jewish activists and allies. Possibly because we let them fester for too long, or it was just indulged as an eccentricity - when in fact it's hate. I think the experience of the fight by the Jewish left under Corbyn shifted this. That doesn't mean people aren't still saying anti-semitic stuff - because they are and it's alarmingly common - but it seems to get called out, whereas looking at that from a Congressional candidate who will be elected to the House it seems to have just been far more accepted.

I mean people are going crazy for the QAnon point (rightly) but seem to just accept that yes it is okay to refer to a Jewish billionaire trying to dominate the world through money. I remember thinking this when Trump released that advert - I think his last one in the 2016 campaign - talking darkly about "globalists" over images of Blankfein, Bernanke and Yellen.

The Soros stuff apparently started back in the Bush administration (or at least the US form of it), because he was donating to anti-war causes.  Honestly, I didn't notice it.  During the Obama administration weird claims that Soros was a secret Nazi started to bandied about by Glenn Beck on Fox News.  Still, he was calling everyone on the left a Nazi, so I didn't take notice of Soros in particular.  I really only noticed it towards the end of Obama administration.

Conservatives have done a great disservice in this country by claim that Nazism was a left-wing ideology.  You wouldn't have been get away with that in the 1960's where so many people actually remembered who the Nazis were.  You had a wait till most of the people who fought the Nazis were dead.  Now there is a sizeable chunk of the population who is ill equipped to deal with Nazism because they can't identify the Nazis.
