Maybe he was thinking of The Caine Mutiny.

It's a monstrous situation.  Supplies that were purchased with funds allocated by a united Congress, to be paid (eventually) by tax payers of both parties.  And doesn't he realize there are right thinking Republicans living in those blue states too?

I'm guessing Pelosi and Schumer are wishing they'd added more stipulations to the bill now.  :(

This is IMO the most despicable thing he has ever done.

You have to give Trump credit, he keeps surprising us.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Well there were the "very fine" Klansmen and swastika wavers, there was Helsinki, there was firing and threatening of Ambassador Yovanovitch, the perfect phone call, so there's lots of competition.

Between this and the assertion of ABSOLUTE POWER, I think Trump has covered most of the bases of what the Founders had in mind concerning the uses of the impeachment power.

I have a feeling that future mischief and depravity will be even worse.

Yeah, this makes sense: https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/492861-treasury-dept-orders-trump-name-be-printed-on-coronavirus-stimulus

QuoteThe Treasury Department ordered that President Trump's name be printed on stimulus checks being sent to millions of American workers impacted by the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, The Washington Post reported Tuesday, citing senior IRS officials.

The move, which marks the first time a president's name will appear on a disbursement from the IRS, will reportedly cause delays for some of the $1,200 payments Congress approved in the $2 trillion stimulus package last month, two senior agency officials told the newspaper.

The Treasury Department denied that the development caused a delay, telling the Post that the "Economic Impact Payment checks are scheduled to go out on time and exactly as planned."

The department did not immediately return a request for comment from The Hill.

Trump's full name will appear on the memo line, the Post reported. About 70 million Americans are expected to receive the check with Trump's name.

The move to place Trump's name on the checks came after the president privately suggested doing so to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, the newspaper reported.

The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Well I got mine from the IRS not from the President :hmm:

Yes, this is only on the physical checks, not the direct-deposits.

Yet another way direct deposit is awesome.

I guess by his logic I should now be a big supporter of the IRS. Thanks IRS!

TL;DR: while Congress made it so checks can't be claimed by federal or state agencies in case an individual owes them money (with the exception of child support payments), but didn't exempt private debts.

So banks could go and try collect these checks from their debtors.

If true seems like a bit of an oversight, as banks would try to get their hands on these payments as much as they could (because they're banks, it's what they do), and the money wouldn't reach people who would desperately need the money.

Article seems odd. It starts off that banks were granted a power to collect debts on funds deposited in them but that's the default state...

True. I guess the point is that there'll be people counting on the money only to have it claimed by their banks. Which may or may not disappoint people.

First the Obama Phone.  Now Trump Bucks.

It is disgusting, but politically its a good idea to have your name on the checks. It will cement a lot of people's support for Trump and the GOP fascists.
