I believe that all 50 of the US states produce their own wine. One day I would like to fly over, hire or buy a nice RV, and tour the USA sampling those wines and engaging random citizens in conversation about the wine.

Alaska wine? Even England is a better land for growing wine. :hmm:

You think something like freezing temperatures will stop American grit and determination? Never!

USA! USA!

Probably not comparable to a fine Bordeaux mind you  ;)

Not to mention the "Alaskan" fermented juice is made from berries and imported grapes, at best.
Alaskan Port?  What's next Alaskan champagne? Not even garbonites will drink that.

Insurance companies are in the business of collecting premiums, not paying out claims.  I mean, duh.
I get that.  But it's a sleazy business model when you do your best to avoid providing the service that people are paying you to provide.

And they have it set up to where you are compelled to buy those worthless policies. Really annoying.

I mean unless you can just buy your house in cash.

The Minsky Moment

Quote from: Caliga on November 10, 2016, 11:08:14 AMMy girlfriend, who is self employed, utilizes Obamacare.  She is very upset and afraid she'll lose it now.

I have non-ACA health insurance and frankly I am getting super pissed off about how shitty insurance of all kinds is getting. They keep slashing coverages and raising deductibles and shit while still increasing premiums. With all the fucking endorsements they put on my home owners insurance the last couple years I have no idea what they even fucking DO cover anymore. A fire that I can prove was not caused by the house (like faulty wiring or something) is about it. Money well spent. Fuck that industry.

Sorry that was an unrelated rant :P

Minsky and Fate had some interesting things to say about that.

Yes haven't decided yet but may very well ditch my workplace insurance plan for an ACA plan, notwithstanding all the issues.

Yes. It is the only industry on the planet that gets paid to NOT provide goods and services.

Huh. I hadn't considered that. My health insurance has gotten a little worse every year I have had it. Especially for drugs, though I very rarely fill prescriptions on the very rare cases I get them. But damn if I did I would be paying a fortune. It used to be just one reasonable fee per prescription/refill.

And they come up with all kinds of clever ways to get out of paying for doctor visits (And dental visits for the dental plan).

I had one checkup of something that was worrying me two years ago. Everything turned out to be cool. Ended up paying over $1,000.00 for it. Holy shit.

How much worse could ACA be?

THE GUBMINT IS GOING TO TAKE MAH HELFCAIH!1!!

I like it. Stupid in the same vein as keeping the hands of the government off my Medicare.
My girlfriend, who is self employed, utilizes Obamacare.  She is very upset and afraid she'll lose it now.

This is little consolation, but she should have the ability to get insurance via Obamacare for 2 years after the date of repeal (maybe mid-2019s).

The preferred version of Obamacare repeal which requires only 51 votes in the Senate (via reconciliation) has a 2 year sunset clause.

Time enough to figure something else out - be it a new job, or maybe a possible GOP replacement plan.

May I introduce some facts into this mindless rant?  In 2014, property and casualty insurance industry collected $494B in premiums, paid out $341B in losses, and spent $139B on underwriting expenses.

Let me introduce another fact. Of the $139b on underwriting expenses, 78% are related to geico ads.

I just know I am paying more and getting less for my money. Is it mindless to be upset about that?

Sorry about them only making 14 Billion. That has to hurt.
