Went past Southampton docks early evening before last and nothing was going on.

I've never seen them inactive before, no ships in,  no TEU movements, no vehicles or cranes working?
Which is odd for the UK's 2nd busiest container port, largest cruise/passenger terminal, and most used vehicle shipping facilities.  :hmm:

Brexit slowdown?   :bowler:

Not even inactive during the '70s oil crises? Happened before certainly.

The Led by Donkeys people are excellent. I don't know who are financing them but they should give them more, because these should be all over the place.

I was already born for the second oil crisis though I have no memory of it, obviously.

They started as a self funded guerrilla thing at first, but when it grew they started taking donations, AFAIK.

:D

I can remember it, just wasn't old enough to be taking trains across the country on my own.

Hypothetically, wouldn't that be safer back then than today?  :P And don't mention British Rail, you would get there, eventually.

It is becoming such a fascinating trainwreck.

Are we getting ready for a Boris-Farage coalition government in early 2020?

This is the kind of myth brexiters believe. It doesn't really hold up. The country was not safer back in the day.

I can't answer your question, but leaving aside the very small abduction risk (someone think of the children etc) , the real risk would be the old fashioned slam-door trains and drop-down windows, either of those were a big hazard to young people and vulnerable/drunk adults.

Oh yes, I remember old ugly trains still running in the '90s with doors you could open during the trip. Very popular among teenagers back then.
