The referendum was botched as well, it turns out that the 52% for leave contains all sorts of groups, from the reasonable to the lunatic; it is a not a "majority" in any real sense. Plus the elite is about 75-80% remain; naturally they are struggling to implement something they think is stupid.

If I saw Mrs May down the pub I think I could let it go; but if Cameron were down there I think I would just have to have a word.

It all started when David Cameron decided to ignore centuries of constitutional tradition and go to direct democracy. A major constitutional innovation like that is naturally going to have big repercussions.

It actually started well before that.  The dysfunction Raz is referring to has its genesis in the fact that membership in the EU has always had an uneasy acceptance within the Conservative party.  Let's not lose sight of the fact that Cameron thought this would be an effective ploy to silence the EU critics he was facing within his party.  His tragic misjudgment was not the cause but really the end result of the dysfunction within the Conservatives.

There is an equally long and complex series of events to explain Labour's attitude's toward the EU and the reason why they have added to the dysfunction of Parliament as a whole.

Not one proposition got a majority. The closest thing was:

Quote(J) Customs union - SELECTED

Clarke, Benn, Goodman, Letwin et al

Ensure any WA and political declaration negotiated with EU includes a commitment to negotiate a comprehensive UK wide customs union with EU, ironclad it in primary legislation (an act).

So, rework the WA from the start.

Oh for fucks sake.

Glass is half full, things are at least trending the right way?

Common market:
For: 264
Against: 272

No deal:
For: 160
Against: 400

I count 24 non-voters in the first vs the second.  And all we need is 5 to change their mind...

Hopefully they can toss out some of the ones with the biggest defeats and vote again?

This one in particular was fairly close and important. Probably a bunch of Labour traitors at play here:

Confirmatory public vote (M) – Not supported

For: 268
Against: 295

One bit of commentary I've read suggests a higher aye vote than 240 (the highest May's deal has yet to achieve) will push it forward to be refined and voted on again,

There would be a hard stare and a "what the fuck were you thinking you bloody fool?"

May has played a bad hand poorly.  Cameron decided to give the UK a bad hand.

How would you have played the hand?

I think it's more accurate to say she was dealt a losing hand and just played it.

We are the knights who say no.

So the question is now, will we see a ranked vote with those least unpopular? And which would those be? Clearly Clarke's CU, probably May's Deal (breaking precedent), second referendum?.
