Well, for better or worse, anti-fascism is stuck with Labour. When is the parry conference and the budget announcement? Feels like these will be pivotal.

Probably not the right thread, but Nick Clegg's Spanish wife is launching a party in Spain

Can't see it being successful.

Josquius

Remember when you go for a walk somewhere rough and see a lot of union flags it means you're in a Lib Dem area.

Someone founding a new centrist, liberal or possibly - if they want to be thrillingly outré - socially liberal and fiscally conservative party. Very 2010s. Who better to heal our polarising politics in an age populism than a former Dechert partner and executive at UBS.

This always feel "these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but...but it might work for us."

Well in some other thread I mentioned that I expect it'll be a while before Reform in power will be done harassing more visible minorities and get to harassing my family, but here I am today finding myself trying to figure out if the remove-indefinitie-leave plan of Reform -which they advertise as the way to kick out hundreds of thousands of people- is going to affect my wife's EU Settled Scheme status, i.e. how urgent it is for us to get the £6k for her citizenship application.

Sheilbh

They're different legal statuses - the overlap is that having one or the other are preconditions for applying for citizenship.

So we are safe until those first few hundred thousand expelled fail to turn the economy around.

Josquius

If Reform ever get into a position to push through that policy then even if you were the most British person alive with zero connection to foreigners it would be wise to get out.

It seems like this announcement might have short term impact of getting all migrants eligible for citizenship to get it shortly. Not sure that's the aim...

That is what Our Party calls Your Party.  To which Your Party says, I know you are but what am I?

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

You'll no doubt be pleased to hear that the two Your Party factions have slightly reconciled - well, they've called off the lawyers. According to the Guardian "relations are said to remain cordial" but Corbyn "is understand to feel a 'complete lack of trust'" towards Sultana.

I do slightly understand Corbyn's point here - twice Sultana has unilaterally made big announcements in his name that he hadn't agreed with. It's emphasised they've always got along and "managed to have a meeting" (which feels like an exceptionally low bar) but note that some are "incredibly distressed".

Meanwhile Sultana apparently "remains optimistic" about the chance of "complete de-escalation". Which feels a challenging given that she said the party was a "sexist boys' club", her allies have accused people around Corbyn of being a "paranoid anti-democratic faction" and she instructed defamation lawyers. That feels difficult to easily walk back from. I would say, for what it's worth, I don't think Sultana's criticisms are unfair - the parliamentary group is Corbyn, four middle-aged, male, more socially conservative Muslim Gaza Independents and Sultana - I can imagine there being a bit of a boys' club. Also the people around Corbyn like Karie Murphy have a long history of organising on the hard-left of Labour and the unions. They are Trot-adjacent so again I can fully believe they're paranoid, anti-democratic and factional.

I think the Our Party faction hasn't been part of this detente because they're not really at the leadership level - it's an unsigned "grassroots" organisation within Your Party.

Sultana shoukd really just join the Greens.

Corbyn won't of course but I do wonder whether that would be good or bad for them if he tried.

A couple of weeks ago, Corbyn held a "tribunal" on Britain's crimes against Palestinians. He will never win an election, ever.
