What a sad individual...intense self-loathing and narcissism...self-proclaimed Catholic's ....

:hmm:  Who else does that remind me of?

And I can't help the fact that every time I see "SJW" my first cognitive response is to read it as an acronym for "St. John's Wort," before I re-interpret it.

I have never heard of this term outside languish.  I seem to forget that I have already searched for the meaning of this term at least three or four times, and I still have to look it up to see what it means.

I wonder if they have a term for the opposite of SJW.

SIW, maybe?  Social Injustice Warrior?

SIW, maybe?  Social Injustice Warrior?

I am thinking of people who are apathetic in general.  A SJW is someone who presumably takes action.  What I am thinking of is someone who doesn't take action and quietly accepts reality.

There is not direct opposite term, though "misogynist asshole" would tend to fit the bill most of the time.

We are looking for a term for politically dormant people that have a generally right wing mindset? Nixon's "the silent majority"?
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

That's what appeared on my mind as well.

No, that's not what a SJW is. A social justice warrior is someone who presumes to express an opinion mildly in favour of any kind of progressive value (most commonly related to gender equality) next to the aforementioned "misogynist asshole." The term then gets applied to them to imply that their opinion should be ignored and they deserve to be harassed.

There is no action necessary to be termed a SJW other than express an opinion on gender or race that someone else takes offence to.

A SJW is someone who is outraged about perceived oppression.

but this isn't SJW. someone who expresses "an opinion mildly in favour of any kind of progressive value" might be called SJW, but that's not an SJW. an SJW, according to its title, is the standard tumblr ultra-leftist type who rages against any perceived consequence of inequality, like yi said.

@mono, it's basically two different extremist types that have fermented on the internet over the past five~ years. SJW is one end of the spectrum, while... gamersgate supporters / those types who prescribe to "alt-right" that's been discussed lately, etc., is the other type; i.e., the opposite end of the spectrum.

Josquius

Yeah. I'd differentiate between a true progressive and those sorts that go out of their way to look for anything they can twist into an affront to their group. And it is always their group, inequality that doesn't affect them isn't worth noting.

In a shameful act of weakness, I actually googled "Milo Yiannopoulos" to find out who the hell this guy is, since I've certainly never heard of him outside Languish. :Embarrass:

What a sad individual. :(  Reading a few interviews and biographies, I feel genuine pity for him, putting any political disagreements to the side.  I suspect his contribution to the world will be, at best, a contemporary case study in what intense self-loathing and narcissism can produce in today's social-media environment.

And forgive me if I feel some doubt concerning this self-proclaimed Catholic's occasional claims to Jewish ancestry; it seems they're only made, conveniently, when the explicit antisemitism of some of his acolytes is brought up, and without any specifics on where exactly his Jewish ancestry comes from...

Seeing how you are a textbook example of a kind and sensitive person, I am not surprised by your reaction. But let's QQ for Palestinians.
