The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane—Marcus Aurelius

The comments are the best part.  Haven't people learned by now that whenever they say something that starts with "back in the days", they're about to say something ill-informed, stupid, and probably off-topic?

Back in the days, I used to look forward to DG's posts.

Here's something odd - chalkboards from 1917, still with writing on them, found while renoing a school.

Quote"The penmanship blows me away, because you don't see a lot of that anymore," Emerson High School Principal Sherry Kishore told the Oklahoman. "Some of the handwriting in some of these rooms is beautiful."
But fucking hard to read. Thus defeating the point.

That's very similar to how I learned to write in school in the early 80s. And used it all the way through college '99.

No idea if schools here have moved on from cursive writing.

Why would you want to undo that stereotype? It looks lovely.

It's not representative of 90% of the country. Hell, many people would contend it's even part of Germany. It's like equating every American to the worst cliché of Texans.

If Texas were like Bavaria, we'd happily accept that stereotype.
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Um, if you're accustomed to reading cursive it's not hard to read at all.  But the handwriting I saw is pretty much standard teacher handwriting.  It's good I guess but not beautiful.

They taught us it in year 4 or 5 and made us use it all through junior school but then in senior school we were allowed to switch back to normal writing.

Having visited Bavaria I was endlessly amused by the German King of Hill stereotypes everywhere. Not only what they said but how they said it.

But Texas was more settled by Rhinelanders.

Also both Texas and Bavaria have cool flags.

Is Barry wearing a linen suit?  Never seen a wool suit that wrinkly before.

They're at ca. 30°C there, so it would make sense. Yesterday, a protest march stopped because the protestors were exhausted.

It is super hot lately.
I went swimming in Lake Geneva on Saturday. It was fun swimming after ducks.

Back in the day, he'd be under FBI surveillance as a possible russian spy.
