Tracking my check-ins on Untappd, I have had beers from 45 unique countries.  Getting to 35 was a breeze.  40 took some effort.  45 tough.  50 (to max out the badge) seems impossible at this point unless I do some traveling.

I keep forgetting to use that. :P

It comes in handy when you can't remember off the top of your head which beers you've had and whether you liked them.  Plus you get badges  :w00t:

There are bars here that have beers from dozens of countries.

Admiral Yi

One of my regular hangs in DC had hundreds of beers in stock.

You haven't truly lived unless you've drank Lichtensteiner beer.

SHUT UP

I'd kill to get my hands on a beer from there.

I am still trying to get over the fact Canadians seem to like Budweiser.

It was nice, but not worth killing someone for.

It would count toward my total.  But yeah, that's a lackluster rating.

I am still trying to get over the fact Canadians seem to like Budweiser.

The issue is that those who like beer are increasingly likely to try one of any number of new brands and styles - leaving the "most popular" title to the absolute lowest common denominator.

In short, those who like good beer split themselves up into dozens if not hundreds of brands; those who like swill are more likely to drink Bud; but because Bud is singular, it appears to "win".  ;)  However, more Canadians than ever are, apparently, drinking good beers.

From the Euromonitor data (that the chart is based on):

QuoteA number of factors caused this: a gradually ageing population that desires more sophistication and healthier lifestyles and a new generation, particularly millennials (or Generation Y), which is more adventurous and less brand loyal; colder weather in Ontario and Atlantic provinces; and an increasing choice of higher quality and higher priced beers over economically priced brands. The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) points out that consumers are increasingly interested in having more knowledge about beer and beer-food pairing, hence a desire for greater variety in beer consumption.
