Dropped by my old apartment on Friday to make sure the mailbox doesn't explode with fliers. It felt uncomfortable going back. A fat old Viennese guy was berating a foreigner in foul language for not speaking German. A bloated woman tumbled drunk out of a bar at 4 pm. Police were raiding the Chechen drug dealers at the parking lot next to the playground (finally!). Etc. Having lived there for four years you kinda grow used to those things. But after two weeks in bourgeois central the contrast was stark.

Fish aren't animals.  You can eat them during lent when you aren't suppose to eat meat.  Since meat comes from animals, fish can't be animals.

It's not exactly the banlieue, but the area has gone downhill in the last one or two years since you've seen it. Shops leaving, and getting replaced by crappier shops (if at all), an increase in crime and violence. Our old hallway had become covered in graffiti and smelled of piss. Etc.
