American style dating is a strange and interesting thing to me, I've read about it happening increasingly overseas too. As a perpetual failure in that domain and someone who does have a lot of encounters with (adult) Americans it is of interest to me.  Sex with high school kids...not so much.

Again though what reason do I have to look at this information with a critical lens?
Its not like I'm going to a state where 18 is the legal age to have sex with 17 year olds and then claim I thought 16 was legal.
The media said it was 18 as an established fact, that seems reasonable enough and is the way in a lot of other places, so meh, let it be sub-consciously filed away as an assumption until proven otherwise.

I'd say yes, Tyr.

I'd go with Jos's general willfull ignorance regarding things American. This isn't the first time we've discussed this but maybe the first time someone posted a map.

That seems remarkably uncharitable of you in this case.

So fully consistent with your character on languish.

Yeah, there's a big difference between not knowing something and not knowing something while insisting you do know it.

Perhaps, I could agree with that. And I suppose I could take less umbrage though both seem to stem from the same root issue.

FWIW, I don't really care if anyone knows the age of consent cut offs. -_-

Wait, there won't be Muslims on Mars??!

I've often wondered about that. How would they know which way Mecca was?

Just bow towards Earth.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.

Just bow towards Earth.

Given the rotation of mars, and the respective orbits of both earth and mars, that's easier said than done.

I remember from an old BattleTech sourcebook it commented that Muslims initially declined to settle in space for this very reason (which also explains why none of the great houses had any Muslim characters or planets associated with them), but that eventually Muslims decided that each planet had it's own holy site, and that they should bow towards that site instead of towards Mecca. :nerd:

All they need to do is bring a chunk of rock from Mecca and make a new holy site at the new planet.

A bit of BT lore that I've actually never heard before!  Thanks, Beeb.   :)
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Well, if you're on a planet in another solar system than you just need to bow towards Sol, which is a lot simpler.

Maybe in the future they can have an app for finding Mecca. Crazy I know.
